The Steelers have had issues retaining top players

The only issue is calling it an issue. It's an observation of the Steelers churning the roster on purpose. That's all it is. It's a good thing to do when the roster you have isn't consistently getting you to deeper rounds of the playoffs. It's something the Cowboys will not benefit from when they give players no trade clauses in their contracts.

The Steelers had their share of WR divas that didn't do much of anything once they were gone:
Antonio Brown
Diontae Johnson
Chase Claypool
Martavais Bryant
Santonio Holmes
George Pickens?

This isn't excusing Pickens' immaturity issues, but the Steelers have a pattern of not losing elite players after their rookie year.

I don't see any of these as top players. I'd categorize them under head cases or not as good as they thought they were. Both categories give license to be let go or not re-signed. I see no issues with any of these decisions by PIT.

The only top player for the Steelers that is up for discussion would be TJ Watt and if he will get extended/re-signed before Parsons lol. Still wouldn't apply to this thread cause this would be TJ's second big contract though.

I mean, everyone acts like the Steelers are playing chess by letting all these guys walk but based on all these guys walking and the Steelers lack of success in recent years, maybe the problem is also with the Pittsburg culture? I've always really liked Tomlin but could see him being an issue at this point in his career.

Had issues retaining top players? Tomlin practically volunteered to drive him to Dallas personally.
