Trevon Diggs hasn't been the best cornerback in the NFL, but he is a ball hawk. In his 2nd season, he led the league with 11 interceptions, tying 1981 rookie Everson Walls for the most interceptions in a season for a Cowboy. He also had another 21 passes defensed. But last season, quarterbacks threw away from Diggs, and he only had 3 interceptions, and 14 passes defensed. With the addition of Gilmore, who is likely a better CB than Diggs, even at his current age, Diggs may no longer be the best CB on the roster. This may lead to more passes coming his way. Hopefully, Diggs will bounce back in 2023 with a big turnover year due to playing opposite Gilmore. Also, with DaRon Bland scoring 5 interceptions in very limited playing time in the slot, there isn't going to be an easy place for the opposing QB's to throw the ball.

This portends a good year for both interceptions and sacks in 2023 for the Cowboys defense.

I said this exact something in the Post when we acquired him . . . All last season QBs avoided him and now they can't. I think this will create more turnovers for our other Ball Hawk Bland in the slot

It is going to be an exciting year

I’ve had similar thoughts. Diggs may have greater opportunity to turn the ball over. What I push back on is this idea that he had a down year. INT aren’t everything as T Newman taught us all…
I agree, I don’t think he had a down year. He had fewer interceptions, but he seemed better defending passes than he had the previous season. I saw Diggs make a couple of plays that I don’t think he would’ve made the year before.

That is a big part of the reason that QB’s were throwing away from him.

There is no doubt that he Diggs will see more action with a corner as good as Gilmore opposite him, so hopefully his INT’s will go up and he can try to lead the league again.

Man, was Gilmore a great pickup.

Gilmore can also be a teacher for our young CB’s.

Diggs is a good CB but I’m not a fan
He’s way overrated on CZ and we will regret paying him 20+ million

3 quality safeties, and 3 quality CBs. Quinn has a very nice secondary to play with.

Depth behind the 3 CBs is questionable. Joseph? Wright? Neither has come on yet— but they may be able to contribute more this year. Maybe add another corner or two in the draft to keep the competition hot.

Mukuamu and Bell are nice developmental safeties. Have not had a stable of safeties this good in a very long time.

Hopefully the side by side comparison will serve as a wake up call for the Front Office to see that it's ok to move on from good players and avoid getting stuck with said player underperforming their contract.

If you're looking for Diggs to ever match his year 1 performance with interceptions, I feel you may be disappointed. I think he's likely a 3-6 int a year going forward, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but year 1 will be an outlier for his Career.

DB group currently the best unit for the Cowboys (despite Joseph's and Wright's underwhelming play two seasons in).

that was year 2 bro..keep up..3,11, 3 =17 not bad no chump here.. his coverage skills IMHO are improved. sure, still high risk take chances payer that get burned sometimes but improved nonetheless.

Byron jones has 4 for his entre career LOL in 7 years!

Exactly, he gave up far fewer plays in 2022 than he did in 2021 when he had 11 INTs but also set some kind of obscure record for yards allowed by a CB.
