It has long been my belief that power brokers in the Super Bowl kind of run in cycles. Here are all 42 Super Bowls and the results all color coded to kind of show what I mean.

Super Bowl I...Packers (NFL) > Chiefs (AFL), 35-10
Super Bowl II...Packers (NFL) > Raiders (AFL), 33-14
Super Bowl III...Jets (AFL) > Colts (NFL), 16-7

NFL & AFL Merger after AFL Wins a Super Bowl

Super Bowl IV...Chiefs (AFC) > Vikings (NFC), 23-7
Super Bowl V...Colts (AFC) > Cowboys (NFC), 16-13
Super Bowl VI...Cowboys (NFC) > Dolphins (AFC), 24-3
Super Bowl VII...Dolphins (AFC) > Commanders (NFC), 14-7
Super Bowl VIII...Dolphins (AFC) > Vikings (NFC), 24-7
Super Bowl IX...Steelers (AFC) > Vikings (NFC), 16-6
Super Bowl X...Steelers (AFC) > Cowboys (NFC), 21-17
Super Bowl XI...Raiders (AFC) > Vikings (NFC), 32-14
Super Bowl XII...Cowboys (NFC) > Broncos (AFC), 27-10
Super Bowl XIII...Steelers (AFC) > Cowboys (NFC), 35-31
Super Bowl XIV...Steelers (AFC) > Rams (NFC), 31-19
Super Bowl XV...Raiders (AFC) > Eagles, (NFC), 27-10
Super Bowl XVI...49ers (NFC) > Bengals, (AFC), 26-21
Super Bowl XVII...Commanders (NFC) > Dolphins (AFC), 27-17
Super Bowl XVIII...Raiders (AFC) > Commanders (NFC), 38-9
Super Bowl XIX...49ers (NFC) > Dolphins (AFC), 38-16
Super Bowl XX...Bears (NFC) > Patriots (AFC), 46-10
Super Bowl XXI...Giants (NFC) > Broncos (AFC), 39-20
Super Bowl XXII...Commanders (NFC) > Broncos (AFC), 42-10
Super Bowl XXIII...49ers (NFC) > Bengals (AFC), 20-16
Super Bowl XXIV...49ers (NFC) > Broncos (AFC), 55-10
Super Bowl XXV...Giants (NFC) > Bills (AFC), 20-19
Super Bowl XXVI...Commanders (NFC) > Bills (AFC), 37-24
Super Bowl XXVII...Cowboys (NFC) > Bills (AFC), 52-17
Super Bowl XXVIII...Cowboys (NFC) > Bills (AFC), 30-13
Super Bowl XXIX...49ers (NFC) > Chargers (AFC), 49-26
Super Bowl XXX...Cowboys (NFC) > Steelers (AFC), 27-17
Super Bowl XXXI...Packers (NFC) > Patriots (AFC), 35-21
Super Bowl XXXII...Broncos (AFC) > Packers (NFC), 31-24
Super Bowl XXXIII...Broncos (AFC) > Falcons (NFC), 34-19
Super Bowl XXXIV...Rams (NFC) > Titans (AFC), 23-16

Super Bowl XXXVII...Buccaneers (NFC) > Raiders (AFC), 48-21
Super Bowl XXXVIII...Patriots (AFC) > Panthers (NFC), 32-29
Super Bowl XXXIX...Patriots (AFC) > Eagles (NFC), 24-21
Super Bowl XL...Steelers (AFC) > Seahawks (NFC), 21-10
Super Bowl XLI...Colts (AFC) > Bears (NFC), 29-17
Super Bowl XLII...Giants (NFC) > Patriots (AFC), 17-14

NFC (NFL) holds a 22-20 lead over the AFC (AFL). The recent trend had the AFC as having the dominant teams and any 4 of the top AFC could beat the top NFC Team.

There are always interuptions to the trend that signal a change. For instance the NFL/AFL Merger. Until the AFL won one, no one considered them important enough to even be in the game. Suddenly minus an interuption here or there, the AFC (formerly the AFL) began to dominate. In fact, only the Cowboys could take games away form the AFC in a long stretch of games there.

Then the NFC took the reins in the 80's (only the Commanders screwed that up) with the emergance of the 49ers and other teams.

Had the Cowboys and 49ers and Bills nto been so dominant in the Early 90s' the Bills and Broncos might have reversed the trend to the AFC.

I believe the swing is headed back to the NFC this year and we'd better be over the Post-Thanksgiving slump stuff. Othersie once again someone else will be taking the girl we like to the dance and we'll be watching her dance with them.

You don't know how much I hated the Pack for frakking up the streak.

Good post. I'm not sure that the power shift is about to turn the NFC way just yet. The dominance of the Patriots, Colts and Chargers on the AFC side will not turn the tide to quickly, imo, BUT I do feel like the Cowboys are ready to both compete and win now. And the rest of the NFC be damned.

I really believe if we had played the entire second half of the season the way we came out after the bye week against the Eagles & the Giants, we'd be playing in the SB & stood a very good chance of beating the Pats. Remember our defense played well in the first half but our offense didn't get started until late in 2nd quarter/3rd quarter and by then our defense was just too worn out. However, in 2nd half of the season our offense was coming out and putting up points early and often. So unlike what some think, I certainly don't believe the Pats would have blown as out cause the last few weeks they hadn't blown anybody out and indeed both sides of the ball was struggling for them.

Do you guys now put just a little more value on those first two SB wins.

Those two blue Cowboy wins look lonely in the middle of all that red.

Whats more impressive is that any of our three losses could have gone the other way.:banghead: Cant say the same for our two wins!

I believe the AFC's dominance is due to the fact they have better QB overall play. I mean look at Brady and Manning.

That is true in all times of dominance. The better your level of QB play the better your chances.
