I know it has been a favorite thread on here for several weeks, and it should be, not because he's greedy and asking for too much or delaying shoulder surgery BUT because he is such a valuable member of this this defense. As a LDE working on the strong side he has few peers at the position as far as stopping the run and getting after the QB. There is no debating that.
Remember the "step on the throat statement", I think it was before the Saints game. Something like "knock 'em down, step on their throat and don't let them back up". He backed those words with action and play. On top of that, he is by all accounts a vocal leader on and off the field. The man deserves to be paid as a top LDE.
If the FO is concerned about durability, GOOD. That means they have turned a corner on paying big $ to players with a history of injury. I can name two players who signed big contracts very quickly, one prone to broken clavicles and one prone to knee injury. You know of whom I speak. Yes, durability should be a talking point
As far as holding back on surgery until a contract is signed, put yourself in Tanks's shoes, what if the surgery doesn't go well. What if the doctors say "it was a liitle more problematic than we thought". Where are you then?As fans we say, he's using the surgery as a negotiation tactic. I suppose he is but he played through it all last season and said very little.
It's not Tanks problem or fault that there is very little depth behind him at LDE should his shoulder surgery delay his return. We've had ample opportunity to address it in FA or the draft. Instead we reached for a "war daddy" in the 2017 draft and got Taco. It's Taco's responsibility to step up as a first round draft pick and play well behind Tank. IT isn't Tanks responsibility to rush to surgery so we don't have to rely on Taco.
See different perspective and Tank IS OUR WAR DADDY!
