The Terrell Davis effect

Being that the Broncos in Davis' rookie season went 8-8, and then became the cautionary tale for resting players before the playoffs in 1996 when they shut it down with 3 weeks left in the season with home field wrapped up, before losing in the divisional round to the Jaguars, I'm going to say no.

The Vikings had the best running back of this generation in Adrian Peterson, and it didn't get them a damn thing. In fact the only time they sniffed anything was when they got Favre for his last good season of football.

Running backs simply aren't that important. Zeke is great, but with last years QBs this team is still hot garbage.

This kind of feels like the 99 Titans. We have a QB who can make plays on his feet, a workhorse RB, a strong OL and a defense that's good enough to keep us in games.

Dak = McNair
Zeke = Eddie George
Witten = Frank Wycheck
OL isn't as good as ours, but Bruce Matthews was an anchor on that line for years.

Our receivers are better, but not by much. We have Beasley and T-Will who are comparable to Kevin Dyson and Yancy Thigpen...Dez is obviously better than anyone they had but they also had Jevon Kearse, which we obviously lack a similar caliber pass-rusher.

Hopefully, we can achieve the same level of success, but not come up 1 yard short.

Ok guys, before blasting me for this hear me out. Does anyone here feel like this year is a lot like the Broncos when they brought in TD? They were literally one player away it seemed. HOF TE, HOF QB etc, but they couldnt get over the hump. TD took them to the next level. Does anyone here think we are about to witness the same season out of our Cowboys? Discuss.
From the title I thought you were inferring his pick is a curse.

QB is always big but Zeke is opening up the whole show for Dak on most plays.
You mean like Murray did in 2014 when he went over 1800 yards? So Romo was just there hanging out?

No.. Romo carried this thing long before Murray did squat. He even had a 13-3 year before Murray was even a Cowboy.
So which is it? Did Murray who had WAY more yards than Zeke carry his team, or did Zeke carry his team, you know because Dak was Qb and not Romo?

I you watch how defenses defend this team it's obvious who they fear.
It's obvious to you since you want certain things for this team, but I don't think it's obvious to defenses.

I may be worried unnecessarily. And I wouldn't even say I'm worried. But I do think there's some validity to the idea that quarterback experience matters. Dak has been shattering the mold in terms of what we should expect from a rookie so it wouldn't be surprising if his success continues into the playoffs. But he could face two potential Super Bowl winning quarterbacks (Rodgers, Eli and Wilson) and two with playoff experience (Ryan and Stafford). And if our defense doesn't hold up, it's going to be on Dak and this offense.
I think teams will try to take advantage of Dak's inexperience by taking away Zeke. We'll see if this strategy is successful or not. Dak will DEFINITELY have to step up in the post-season.
I feel the same way. Just letting other posters do their thing.

We'll be healthy and ready. I fear rust with the BYE. Just don't wanna see visions of 2007.

At the same time, these two young studs have rejuvenated everyone. So I'm hoping for a much different response than we had back in '07.

Just feels different this time around.

Dak has shattered the mold.....with the absolute most perfectly put-together offense a rookie has ever enjoyed in league history. The Cowboys have manhandled undermanned defenses at will.

However, playoffs are about quarterbacks and defenses. Which quarterback wins the chess match against the defense. That's what deep playoff runs come down to.

Dak is the best draft choice any team made, but is he ready for that right now?
I guess it wasn't perfectly put together last year when we went 4-12, or was it the QB? I have no idea nor does anyone else for that matter, what will happen this year. But for now, the guy has gotten us a first round bye in his first seasons. That alone is a major accomplishment, an accomplishment I think will continue.

Our QB just started throwing drop back passes under center a week ago....

It's Zeke.

The dropback aspect of his game is not going to be altered substantially until the offseason, but I doubt it's that big of a deal. Romo took most of his passing snaps from the shotgun.

I see where you are going... these were my thoughts with Zeke and Romo. Each being Davis and Elway respectively,

Do I think Dak could take us close to mistake free on a playoff run? Yes. Because of Terrell... errrr.... Zeke. :)

So, while not my exact thoughts going in.... I'll take it!

It is an amazing accomplishment for a rookie, and I would never compare Dak to those trash veterans who would rather hold clipboards for $2 million than actually have to play.

Dak in three years will be an absolute monster.
