..is that it just proves how much faith Jerry has that we can go to the Super Bowl this year and how he is willing to do whatever it takes to give us the best chance to get there.. He knows that this team has a real shot and losing Ferguson was a big loss so he is going to take a chance on Tank.. It also must mean that they are very confident in the return of Newman because they haven't made a move there yet.. Jerry knows this could be a special year, the coaches know it and the players know it.. They are all doing everything they can to get us there.. Terry Glenn having that surgery is another perfect example..

And I love that we have been smart about things.. Letting Newman rest as long as possible so that he can be healthy when he comes back.. Ellis not rushing things.. Let's not hurry things, let's get healthy and strong and 100% at the end of the season..

I'm tellin' ya, as good as we look right now, we should look even better the second half of this season and the playoffs.. here's why:

1. Terence Newman back and healthy completely changes this defense

2. Greg Ellis back will be a great help to the pass rush

3. Tank Johnson improves our front seven immediately, whether as a starter or a backup

4. Terry Glenn back makes the highest scoring offense in the NFL even more lethal

5. The defense should be totally comfortable with the new schemes and design of Wade's D by the midway point

these 5 things, which should all have had happened by the midway point in this season, will make an already very good team even better.. man, i'm freaking excited..

I'm happy jerry was proactive before other teams could get into the mix. Tank said he was grateful that dallas came calling first and he wanted to show his appreciation.

Or it could be that Jerry has bought into a Superbowl after beating two mediocre at best teams who are both 0-2 at the moment. Let's wait until we beat someone like Chicago before we hoist that Lombardi...

I agree with all of the above....Tank will start off probably playing the nickel when we have 4 down lineman...it will be nice to see us get pressure with only bringing 4 guys....

This wasn't about jerry buying into the super bowl hype. Tank was a necessity. If ferguson hadn't gotten hurt johnson wouldn't have been given a look. We needed the guy for depth.

We need all the help on defense we can get. Tank/Spears/Canty/Ware/Ellis/Ayodele/James/Williams/Hamlin/Henry/Newman,man that looks good on paper.

Don't worry. If we beat Chicago, they won't count as a "real" team.

I don't want to just get to the SB. I want to win the SB and that means beating out NE. Unless our defense can really step it up, have a hard time believing we can do that.

And we beat them soundly..

And one was a divisional opponent..

And the other was on the road..

This is the NFL, nobody ever plays Arkansas State..

Every game is huge and every NFL team has enough talent to win on any given week.. Just ask Cincinnati.. Or New Orleans.. Or Carolina..

I'll never forget the high-powered Buffalo bills team in 91/92 season that were going thru teams like paper - Those Buffalo teams were high powered offenses and defenses like the Patriots, and the Cowboys were a bunch of un-knowns, but they quickly learned who we were once we stone-walled San Fran, and then went on to destroy them in the SB.

I don't fear NE at this point.

I don't have any issues with wait and see approach but did you see Browns beating a playoff caliber team, Bengals last Sunday? I think you would agree that Giants and Dolphins are better than Browns.

My point is, there are no gimmies and no easy wins in the NFL, a team would be in a rude awakening if they take other teams lightly.

Very good post, however Mr. Jones believes we are going to the Super Bowl every year or so it seems.

I understand your point, but I think everyone else has missed mine.

Jerry is the eternal optimist and thinks we will win the Superbowl every year, but he doesn't bring in players based upon this belief, he brings them in because of a need.

We needed a FS so we brought one in. We need depth at DT, so we are bringing in Tank. We could have entered the Randy Moss sweepstakes, but since we didn't need him, we didn't show any interest. We bring in the players we do, NOT because of a Superbowl dream after beating 2 winless teams, but because we had a need and the risk/reward is much better.

The Lombardi comment was for everyone getting all high on a 2-0 start moreso than anything. Would this same thread be started if we were 0-2 at this point?
