The owner and his son are follow the ball people.

The owner always has the stars in his eyes.

The HC leans heavily toward the QB and passing game.

The OC does the same.

The QB just got the 2nd largest NFL contract and was much celebrated on the owner's favorite playing field, the media. Now, that owner wants to show everyone he was right. Prescott's rankings and stats matter.

The offense has two 1st rounders at WR and has a top 3 WR set.

The best protection for a defense is an offense that can control the clock and limit the opportunities for the opposing offenses, just as they did in 2014 when they led the NFL in TOP.

Or have a turnover defense as they had in 2014 ranking 2nd in INT's.

High octane offenses can make some real noise with an opportunistic defense but they must get the turnovers and tilt the possessions to their offense.

The challenge is how do McC, Moore and Quinn keep their bosses happy on the follow the ball side and have their offensive play calling protect the defense?

Or do you think that the owner will be happy if his 40M QB and WR's aren't showcased? Think he's going to sit still for anything less than a game plan of 60% passing? And remember, he's already said he sees and approves every game plan.

His ego is so wrapped up in this that he might be happier with a QB with the passing title than a deep playoff run. You can bet McC and Moore are both more than aware he didn't do that 160M deal to have his prize handing off 50% of the time.

Even if this defense is improved, it still needs to be protected with drives and play calling but I do not see the owner letting his coaches do that. I think he is expecting around 600 passing attempts from his prize this season.

McC's #1 job is not winning; it is keeping his GM/owner comfortable and happy. That is one tough challenge.

One-sided teams don't win SBs yet the Cowboys keep trying to do it. They even have some fans buying into it now.

They just need "average" defense because the offense is unstoppable. I know this, as I have read it here several times.

Sad truth. And if anyone thought Big Mac was going to have some “say” like a real NFL HC does about things like minimizing distractions, Hard Knocks answers that. Anyone think Mac or his coaches are excited about that?

I’m still amazed at the fans who buy the shine the Jones cartel has been able to foist on on the Star despite the last 20 years only making the playoffs 7 times, having been just 8 games over .500, and zero divisional playoff wins. We’ve basically been the Bengals with a better reputation.

Toughest issue may still be influence of the owner.

Why is it that the defense always needs something from the offense in order for them to do their jobs properly?

The Cowboys pass a lot because the defense sucks and cant stop anyone. Cant run the plodding Zeke up the middle at 3 yards a clip and expect to score 40 points a game and keep up with all the points the defense is giving up.

The owners will be happy with wins. That's all you gotta do. Win and Jerry is fine. But lose and he wants to know why this high octane offense can't do better.

We are doomed!

Yes Men older type re treads with visions of last coaching gig pay days before retiring.

That is about what the eligible HC candidate pool has been reduced to for the Dallas Cowboys.

If it's a younger type he most likely is naive to his actual lack of team control until his first run in with Coach Jerry, and then he either becomes a Jones Yes Man or is let go.

Bout what I got.

The defense is what needs the changes.

The coaching staff is close to the quality that Dallas started to win with under Jimmy Johnson.

I'm thinking the current head coach can motivate and keep his team focused.

The Offensive Coordinator now has the players together to field a very top level offense. Offensive line issues should clear up with the return of three quality members of the unit. But a quality running game and depth of quality for receivers should well drive this team. Ideally, they should push opponents to have to stay up and in turn have to push their own passing games. Very few teams should be able to keep up here. Dak is working on precision on longer passes. Here, maybe he will add an element of a Rogers or Brady. The will be very flexible and hard to control. Three legitimate 1,000 yard candidates...wow.

Now, the Defensive Coordinator has this fan truly excited. He is old school as to disciplinarian and accountability. He is both a good teacher and leader. His job is two fold right now. He has to integrate and learn the talent levels of a bunch of new players as well as create an integration of scheme that uses the specific strengths in many different ways. This what training camp will provide. Hard Knocks will even help in highlighting and putting a demand upon play as well.

All the new players will have to more than just understand demands but meet them. Like all progress, it won't be perfect...but it is coming now.

The D Coordinator's second job, is to have his squad ready to go to war...literally, from the start of this season and for the start of each and every game.

We'll have to wait to see just how effectively pressure is brought up front, or if the secondary is strong enough to make receivers fight for quick receptions. The secondary is a huge question at present, but there is talent there.

Linebackers are going to return to being assets and limit effectiveness off the line of scrimmage.

The defense will be the X-factor that in the end, determines just who the team actually beats. Presently, they will determine just how far this team travels.

As to the present, this fan will quite contented just to watch this evolve.

But as to any Jerry echoes, it still is who have you beaten...not just the show in the theater. After all this time, even he can acknowledge this fact.

Let's go...

Jeez yet another negative thread.

It is the burden that all Cowboy coaches must bare. I suspect it is far worse than most think. I believe Jerry involves himself with the actual play calling.

The challenge will always be to win despite Jerry Jones. Any Head Coach that can win a Super Bowl under Jerry Jones deserves his own trophy.

Right. He wasn't upset in 2014 when we were paying a quarterback pretty good money and had a strong run game, with Murray rushing for almost 2,000 yards. The Jerry hate blinds some fans. He wants to win even if he doesn't know how.

Honestly, how many of these threads about ownership are we going to get in one offseason? I mean, none of us are really thrilled that Jerry owns the team… but between you, Bob and DHB. We get one of these same threads, saying the same thing, every few days.

We get it. Y’all hate Jerry and love to give him silly nicknames. Y’all’s kids hate Jerry (unsurprisingly). Everything is ownership’s fault and hoping for much success is futile.

Ok. Personally, I see no need to post the same thing over and over.

As for what you wrote, most of that is just pretty much guesses. Conjecture. A guy who thinks he knows what the owner of the Cowboys thinks, feels and wants.

The Cowboys just used the first 6 picks in the draft on defense and they have been picking defensive help in the draft… they’ve just been missing on that side of the ball more than they’ve been missing on offense.

Had Taco been a hit like Lamb is, that would’ve really helped balance the team. Hill turning out as good as Gallup would’ve also.

Gallup is part of the passing offense that you say Jerry loves and would rather draft, but the Cowboys spent a 3rd round pick on him and they spent a 2nd round pick on Hill. The difference is that Gallup hit and Hill (so far) hasn’t.

The Cowboys have been focusing on defense for a while now but have missed with some of their draft picks and with some of their defensive coaching decisions.

They’re trying to get the defense fixed. If they do or not is a different discussion that just saying Jerry only cares about offense.

Right. He wasn't upset in 2014 when we were paying a quarterback pretty good money and had a strong run game, with Murray rushing for almost 2,000 yards. The Jerry hate blinds some fans. He wants to win even if he doesn't know how.

He just wants to win. He doesn't know how to build a SB team and over spends because he's afraid of letting good talent go but he just wants to win.

1. they cant or wont
2.no he would not be happy. I think it may be 70% passing.
Did he really say he approves game plans ?? lol

The notion that Jones involves himself in the actual play calling is the most outlandish statement I’ve heard in a long time. I guess he’s got a bat phone from his suite down to the HC or OC. Jerry screws things up in other ways but he’s not calling plays. Give me a break.

Anyone who thinks that MM doesn’t have a say like a real NFL HC is living in a fantasy land.
