Is that the guy hasn't had a decent season since 2002... in the 2 years plus 1 game this year since then, he has played a total of 13 games, and here's his stats line:

333 attempts... 180 completions... 54.1 completion percentage (this from a supposedly accurate QB)... 1748 yards... 134.5 yards per game passing... 5.3 yards per attempt... 9 TDs... 6 ints... 15 completions over 20 yards (1 in every 12 completions)... 4 completions over 40 yards (1 in every 45 completions)... 28 sacks for -151 yards... 1597 net yards passing... 122.8 net yards per game passing...

Even allowing for the fact that Brunell didn't play the entire game a coupla times in this 13 game stretch, he's still averaging under 150 yards per game passing... and this past Sunday, he accounted for 62 net yards passing in just under three quarters of play...

I ask you, do those numbers strike fear in your heart??

He did pretty good in preseason last year I think.

I don't recall for sure how he did, but my old memory says you're right... I wonder where I might be able to find the stats from last preseason??

no, but his 325 yards passing and 2 tds against us last year do. and hes supposedly "healthy" unlike last year. my sincere hope is that nobody on our team is thinking hes "done" -- im counting on parcells and the coaching staff to ensure that the onus is on us, and not that theyre so sorry itll be a cakewalk for us.

i do believe we'll win. in fact, we should win handily, but only if we play like were capable. i loved our win last wk and i take nothing away from our team. but to prove we have truly gone to the next level, we need to perform as expected against supposedly inferior teams. another wk playing in our new defense, all of our weapons on offense, should be a double digit victory. but im not counting on the Commanders ineptness as much as i am our significant talent upgrade and new scheme implementation and better familiarity with it.

all it takes is a couple of turnovers by us to make this a tight one.

And how did our D as a whole do last year? As I recall we were terrible on defense, which led to a revamping of the entire unit and scheme, might that have had a bit to do with his 'success' last year? BTW, if I remember that game correctly he only had success the last couple of drives, and 45 of those 325 yards passing came on a desperation heave which resulted in yards but nothing else, as time ran out after the catch.

which is why i said i expect us to do well with our new scheme and having played in it gaining some familiarity. it doesnt change the fact he was able to have success.

how many of these games btw us have come down to the last few series? quite a few. again, he had success, thats why the numbers posted in the original thread dont do much for me. all that matters is that you do enough at some point to win the game. and 280 yards passing is still nothing to sneeze at, if you remove the desperation heave.

.

Well...we had 2 7th round rookies(Reeves/Jones) forced into action as our #2 and #3 CB spots after Pete Hunter went down early in the game with a torn ACL. All heck broke loose after that. I think there will be a considerable difference when you put Henry and Glenn in those spots.

Not saying that Brunnell and the Skins WRs aren't capable of making some plays in the passing game - hey this is the NFL - but let's just say that I like our chances of winning that battle.

We had a VERY different defense last year... one with no cornerbacks...

If you're trying to make yourself feel better, then by all means do so.

But Brunnell can beat us, and so can the Commanders. They know they're 14-1 against us. They know they have to reverse that trend.

I guarantee they'll be playing lights out. Don't underestimate the Commanders ... they have talent and they can easily beat us ... on any given day.

I agree 100% but at the same time don't discount what Dallas has on the line monday night. The ROH is no laughing matter and I'm willing to bet the Boys don't want to lose that game and will come in ready to play lights out against them. It has all the makings for a classic battle. In the past few years we've also played to the level of our competition; which is never a good thing when you play a bad team.

One reason that I'm just a little more relaxed going into this Skins game than I would usually be is that Parcells has seen Brunell several times before. In fact it was the Parcells coached Patriots that beatdown Brunell's Jaguars in the 96 AFC Championship game 20 to 6. I have no doubt that the defense will be as prepared as is possible. All they have to do is execute and Brunell will have a VERY long night come Monday.

I know this is the NFL and all, but it has to a little difficult to go from a righty QB to a lefty QB , everything is reversed, including the rotation of the ball for the receivers which affects hand positioning. I guess since they have been going back and forth so much it's not a huge deal, but QB's do tend to go to their strong side more often. This should mean more action for Henry this week.

Henry was faulted because he plays the WR so tough at the line and in short coverage that he's susceptible to the double move. Well, Brunell supposedly doesn't have the arm to go 30 yards downfield, so our CB style should matchup well with the more conservative passing game the Skins are likely to employ. i just don't see him having much success against our blitzes considering the quality of our secondary. it will be a long long evening for Mark Brunell, and finishing the game standing will be an accomplishment... imo
