The numbers don't tell the whole story about Vanderjagt and I will tell you why.

while he is OK from 20-39 yards (11 out of 13) he is a problem only 1 out of 4 when it is 40-49 yards. You know what this means, your team could have driven the ball all the way from the 20 yard-line (most likely) and got it all the way to the other teams 30 to 32 yard-line and your SO-CALLED most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL can't get your 3 points, it just destroys your team morale. Not only that but you are giving the other team a great field-postion.

now some might say, well 1 out of 4 is really not that bad. Her is the thing, BP couldn't trust him to even give him more trys. he eitehr punted them away or went for them on 4th downs because he didn't have a reliable kicker.

I don't know if you all saw the Giants game with Tenessee, but it came down to a long field goal kick, out game game against Washington came down to a kick (I know it wasn't his fault) but those 3 points could win you a game and they are really important.

Other kickers like the one in Chicago, Gould I think is his name, has just missed 1 this year. ONE....that is right ONE, just ONE.

The fact remains the PB was right to get rid of him because he was a liability, you never knew if he was going to make the kick or not, at least with Gramatica it is little more obvious, even if it is less %.

Vanderjagt never recovered from his miss against the Steelers.

When you have doubts about Vanderjagt from the start (TC), and he has to earn your trust, that's not good.

Honestly, I shudder whenever we even line up for a PAT because Vandy has been so shaky.

Couple that with the fact that he isn't very good on kick offs, and I can see why BP doesn't want this chump to be there if and when we need someone to decide the game for us.
