The truth about Steve Hoffman

Oh wait I'm sorry.... when did our FG problems really start again?? Was it when Hoffman left? I certainly dont remember our kickers being this "non"clutch since before his departure. Oh well....enjoy Martin Grammatica. Hope he lives up to your Homer-logic hopes and dreams. :lmao2:

Wow...that's for that post.....I didn't realize that we were soooo good in the kicking game since BP's been here.

Yes, I AM the Sarcastic One.

Umm no it had been a problem for years before he was fired---------

1999 Cunningham (12 games) 15-25 60.0% Then we brought back Murray

2000 Tim Seder 25-33 75.8%

2001 Tim Seder (8 Games) 11-17 64.7%
John Hilbert (8 Games) 11-16 68.8%

2002 Billy Cundiff 12-19 63.2%

2003 Billy Cundiff 23-29 79.3%

2004 Billy Cundiff 20-26 76.9%

I certainly dont remember our kickers being this "non"clutch since before his departure. Oh well....enjoy Martin Grammatica. Hope he lives up to your Homer-logic hopes and dreams. :lmao2:

Gramaticca can come in and hit about 70-75% and be as good as any Hoffman kicker since 1998

We're 4-2 since releasing Coleman.

When did you start watching this team?

Placekicking has been an issue since the 1990s. And that was with Hoffman being the only dedicated "kicking" coach in the league. That was all he did under Coach Johnson, Switzer and down through Campo. Coach Parcells took a look at the staff and probably wondered aloud why we had a fulltime kicking coach and no fulltime secondary coach. It made no sense, and his contract was not renewed.

I do not see many posters happy about Grammatica. In fact, it appears most hate the decision. No "Homer-logic".

And the reason you don't remember our kickers being "non-clutch" was because our teams were so bad in the last three years of Hoffman's stay here that we rarely had a "clutch" situation for them to kick in.

You might have a point.

Perhaps Coach Parcells is attempting to excise all the alcoholics from the team for the stretch drive.:)

That's him. The school teacher who got trampled by the horse. I forgot his name.

1990s.....3 rings. Multiple NFC East Championships.

Since?

Hoffman isn't a god, but why do some posters love to trash him?

So we had an extra position coach, a specialty coach, that no one else had. What does it hurt to have another expert in his craft on your side?

I don't get it. It doesn't cost us any money and it doesn't take up salary cap room. So what's the big deal?

It's not Hoffman, I don't think.

It's the magical powers associated with Hoffman, and the notion that somehow his firing is the reason our kicking game is woeful. I stopped believing i boogeymen a while ago.

But people on this site ARE acting like Hoffman is Gods gift to kicking, and that Parcells is the grinch who ruined the kicking game by sending that hack away. All of this without failing to recognize how bad the kicking game was going back to the late 90's and how little gods gift has done in Atlanta.

Ineteresting stats... I guess I stand corrected. I thought Hoffman had done a little better than those percentages show.

Then again, Jimmy Johnson himself said last season that Parcells letting go of Hoffman was a big mistake. He mentioned how Hoffman had done a fine job with no-name kickers for Dallas for 15 years and letting him go cost us in the kicking game.

I mention that only to give a little thought into why so many of us Cowboys fans had faith in Hoffman. Add to that the fact that it seemed that the kicking last season was so bad compared to previous season under Hoffman.

I'm not trashing him at all, nothing I have said is not factual. I dont even see people trash Hoffman himself, just argue against the group that believes Hoffman is a demi-god

Is there a way to find out all the kickers we've had in camp and released? I'm sure we cut the wrong guy once or twice. Rian Lindell was cut in favor of Seder or Cundiffe. I think we also had Matt Bryant in camp and maybe some others.
