Microsofts Live Tiles are simultaneously app icons and widgets.

A Live Tile changes based on information from the app it's representing, like a stock price, a weather report, a news update, or a friend's new profile photo.

In this way, Live Tiles offer at-a-glance information first and foremost, and are the focal point of Windows 8.

Windows 8 not only puts the emphasis on the consumer, but takes the emphasis away from the web.

Once again, Microsoft wants to change the conversation by bundling in essential apps that will fit the needs of the majority, and limit the amount of time spent searching.

Internet Explorer is not the best internet browser, by a long shot.

In Windows 8, Internet Explorer has received a total revamp. It's incredibly speedy, defaults to full screen for spacious browsing, and doesn't even include Adobe Flash.

We repeat: it's a default desktop browser that doesn't include Adobe Flash. Microsoft's ear is to the ground and has its eyes on what's next with Windows 8, despite the risks involved.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Msft steps into a brave new world; any app you want is yours for the taking. Anyway, i'll believe IE is usable when i see it, but as the article states web based browsing is not the emphasis, so they envision. (Wouldn't want anybody bothering with googling and all) At least it's interesting conceptually.

Waiting for Yosemite Sam to break down the door to this thread and start blazing away just any time now.

I have no technological allegiance at all here, except as a minor stakeholder in both companies. May the both prosper.

Hey, even Windows 7 is cool.

I have it on a machine around here somewhere...doing nothing. I never used it too much myself when it was in use at the office but didn't find it remarkably divergent from Vista (which works fine for my purposes) though many people say it's more stable, etc. Am looking forward to Win 8 quite a bit.

Windows 7 is a very nice OS, but I'm glad Microsoft is pushing the envelope a bit rather than keeping the general layout the same as it's been since Windows 95.

Flash is on it's way out. The problem I have is currently, it's still the web standard for full web interactivity and video.

Besides, what the hell does Microsoft have to do with it? Adobe writes the software. Maybe Microsoft won't support it on IE, but IE is a dying browser anyhow.

While I agree that it's on it's way out, iPhone bashers have always used no support of Flash as a major flaw in Apple's philosophy while Apple Siders (pun intended) have maintained Flash will pass in time.

As I said, I have PC's and Mac's and work with Linux boxes so I want them all to excel.

Choice is good. As long as though choices aren't trying to stifle each other with an idiot patent war of attrition. :bang2:

A base install of Windows has never had Flash. You've always had to install it.

I like Windows 7, but you always want to know how other stuff works too. It gives you an advantage over the brand loyalty guys. Knowing all of them is a good thing, I think. Preference is another, which is what I think you're saying anyway.

To be honest, the major reason most OS companies hate flash is because it acts as an operating system on top of their operating system and as such, creates a platform that competes with their own OS and its development potential.

If IOS had built-in flash support, a lot of app companies would design their apps in flash and circumvent the revenue sharing required to create IOS apps. I am sure Microsoft is hoping to cash in on the app market using the Apple App Store model or something similar and therefore will likely try to avoid flash support as well at least in the mobile versions of Windows 8.
