The Truth is Romo needs to be tamed

Yes Romo has been coached to be cautious with the ball. Managing the game isn't exciting but we'd be 2-0 if any one of about 6 player mistakes didn't happen, his included.

We are utterly horrendous in attacking a defense. The reality is, this offense has always been playing down and distance, putting the onus on Tony Romo to bail the out. I've never seen a team was so many downs in first and second.

Romo has been a different QB for the last three years or so. Do you remember when he said that they were changing his style of play to be more like Tom Brady? I think it started then. When he was at his best, he was much more like Farve. Thank Garrett for the change. He took away a part of Romo's game that made him special. In other words, Garrett ruined him. The stats look great at times, the results don't.

The only time he looks great is when he has more freedom, because of going up tempo.

Dez doesn't drop that deep ball we win the game. And now here we are.

The story of this team.. If one play was made.. Good team overcome a mistake here and there. The Cowboys on the other had leave us with, "if only the ref.. if only the drop... if only Tony saw..." depending on the game

The calls are coming in for dinks and dunks by design. Blame at least part of that on the fact that the OL has been suspect in pass protection in the past. If they prove to be much improved once Waters, Frederick and Leary get it together, perhaps those dink and dunk calls will change. Also, Romo's ribs are something that may very well be making our daring less likely to risk calling longer patterns. Right now, I'm hopeful it'll get better.

The problem is that we should not have to rely on just one play to decide whether we win or lose. With the talent we have we should be lighting up the scoreboard.

It wasn't just one play. A missed INT by Carter, a missed INT by Allen, the drop by Dez, the sack in the red zone, Romo being off target at the end. It all adds up.

Romo is structurally suspect. His rib injury will hinder him for how long, we don't know but it was evident that his mechanics suffered in the second half because of it.

The defense is still a work in progress. They should get better but enough to carry a team with a propensity for conservative game-planning and play-calling? I'm not so sure. The Cowboys face the same dilemma that has dogged them since Garrett took over ... an unbalanced, schizophrenic offense that becomes its own worst enemy, especially on the road, where Garrett's offense has failed to score over 20 points 21 times since 2007.

Look down the Cowboys schedule and determine which games the Cowboys will win by more than 7 points and that will largely determine the likelihood that they will make the playoffs and have success. Why?

2006-08, 37.5% of Cowboys games were decided by a touchdown or less; since Garrett took over the coaching reins in 2010, a staggering 69% [29 of 42 games] of their games have been "close." This is problematic; in an NFL landscape in which a close game can turn on a flukey, chance moment - a fumble, a controversial officials' ruling, a deflected pass, a slip on the turf - the best way to be a winning team is to avoid being in a situation wherein weather, a bad call, or just plain, dumb luck can determine the outcome.

Thats because when we have a small lead Garrett all of a sudden likes to chew some clock and we lose all all momentum doing it. He doesn't have a good feel for when to take time off the clock or that killer instinct.

This. Fair or unfair, the onus of wins and losses falls directly on Romo far too often. The truth is: No one else on the team is stepping up to make game-winning plays on a regular basis.

The OP would make a lot more sense if it wasn't obvious Romo is injured.

Why would we try to go for a bomb when Romo has to wince to throw a 25 yard out?

Yup. We weren't fully healthy and that showed up.
We didn't do quite enough to win.

As Jerry said, we were underdogs for a reason.
