The two biggest roadblocks to success

if the players aer not doing their jobs then move on from them like a wr who didn't catch a touchdown pass in 16 games to many players not doing there jobs and not being held to a standard is one of things that is wrong and the team is soft as is the coaches

Like anything else-- it all comes down to leadership-- or lack thereof.

From the top down, we are lacking in proactive leadership. Some of the "right" things are being said technically-- but good leaders see what's need to be done, and then do it. This franchise is in crisis-- and action and hard change is required-- but they are effectively ignoring the elephant in the room. The "process" hasn't worked to this point-- and making superficial changes to your assistant coaching staff isn't going to result in enough qualitative change to make a real difference.

When open heart surgery is needed, removing the tonsils won't cure the patient.

IMO all this is overblown..thte whole team and roster other than Dlaw had adown year..still we ended up 9-7

the roadblock in 2017 was untimely injuries and roger goodell with the zeke suspension and allowing that schedule to be approved 3 game sin 12 days two back to back Thursday games AFTER playing the Sunday night game..

the timing was horrible with Tsmith getting hurt and zeke suspended right at that moment, than the injuries to Baily and in the turkey game martin out 3 quarters..it snowballed..5-3 at mid poit with two blown games with big halftime leads against good teams.. the first had team of 17 is more of who we are than the last.. i realize the coaching and depth and how they were used was awful but really it was just simply bad timing of the suspensions and injuries to great player sat the wrong time with bad scheduling error..

Snakes can survive a long time between meals and Jerry seems content with his Super Bowl wins "over two decades ago", Hall of Fame induction and revenue sales. There's only one way to escape this hell... we must have the head of the snake!

The two biggest roadblocks as I see it are the same roadblocks we have every year and will continue to have until it has fixed......GM and HC

Our 12-4 and 13-3 were a mirage during the season and proved that we didn't belong in the post season.

The lipstick can only cover up so much of the pig.....when it's all said and done, it's still a pig.

Watching our long time divisional rival hoist a Lombardi last Sunday should be a cold shower for the leaders of this organization. The beagles took all the problems (excuses) that the Cowboys have wrestled with the last few years and not only overcame them, they grew through them.

When we lose key starters, we lose games. When Filly lost key starters, they won a championship.

And the lesson that must be learned at team headquarters if we are ever going to compete for a championship again (in my opinion) is that we must address these big picture problems. If we don’t fix these them, talent alone will never overcome.

1. Lack of Mental toughness. The Cowboys of the last 5 years can play some smash mouth football. They can be physical with anyone. But we are excuse sponges mentally. And it starts at the top. Jerry loves him some excuses why we didn’t win. He accepts them as reasons to keep his HC and even some overpaid players he loves like a fantasy football owner. This team needs to stop embracing excuses...PERIOD. And again, that starts at the top.

2. A culture lacking accountability. This will be the hardest to change. Jerry doesn’t hold anyone accountable for failure at the top of this organization. Not himself, not his son, and not his head coach. He prefers to place false accountability on mid level assistant coaches who ironically never had any real power to begin with. By getting rid of assistant coaches with no power, a false sense of change is created. Nothing has really changed. Until someone of real power loses their job, nothing will really change. And it needs to happen with players too. If your highest paid player(s) grossly underperform their pay grade, the lack of accountability for them poisons the team’s culture too.

There are certainly other problems that face our favorite team. But IMO, the two problems listed above are the biggest impediments to winning. If those two problems aren’t addressed, the ONLY hope this org has is to simply overwhelm our opponents with far superior talent...that never gets hurt or has a bad game. Sadly for us fans, not very likely.

Yes and other variations of this post. Everyone complains that we won't bring in quality free agents, and want Dez and Witten kept with outrageous contracts. All of these pieces fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.

I mentioned culture in another thread and was shot at by some homers. The players believe they are accountable to Jerry Jones ultimately. We know what Jerry Jones is all about.

I would add coaching and aggression. Perhaps they go together. The Cowboys have lacked aggression for year. Typical game plan is passive. Try not to lose it and give up big plays on defense. If you watch other teams it becomes very apparent. No swagger in Dallas, just a lot of excuses and promises to be better next year.

The major roadblock for this team is the same as it has been for the last 20+ seasons, no penalty for failure or mediocrity. The team has increased in value every season and has been in the top 3 in revenue and profit every season.

And what is the reward to Booger if he wins another one except for ego? The team sells out and the only additional revenue would be from home playoff tickets and possibly more merch sales but they're already tops in merch sales. The difference between winning and mediocrity is marginal concerning revenue.

There is not another business model like this one except for the federal government. Other businesses are usually forced to improve their product, sell the company or fold. This one just keeps on keeping on.

Until winning becomes tied to money, no way is Booger willing to admit personal failure and turn to another to run his team. The man has already admitted that he is not the best one but he has reiterated that he is the only one.

Disagree ron, Garrett is family. He became another brother to Son and according to reports, his wife is like a sister to Booger's daughter.

He was tagged early on as a future coach by his QB and being from a football family. ATL, BAL and DET were interested in him as a HC. If he had not been retained with money and a promise, he would have ended up in either ATL or BAL. Whether he would have lasted there is questionable because I agree with your assessment of him being a HC, but he was material for it and for all we know would get another shot with another team. The NFL likes to recycle..

part of "winning the right way".....there are consequences.And here...I dont see any.

My optimism rest on 2014 and 2016 season . When we’ve had all of our elite talent on the field we have better seasons contending for playoffs.

We aren’t deep enough in talent or coached well enough to overcome losing key or elite talents.

But until we have either an elite QB or dominant defense I certainly don’t expect to contend for a championship.
