The Two Weeks Out Mock of Ages

I like for the most part, though, I might target Ras I Dowling at 110 or even 71.
Good luck with that 71...let alone 110.
He's a 2nd rounder.

Not a sexy mock but when has the trenches ever been sexy. This draft would definitely upgrade our team. If Peterson is gone i have to at least think about Prince though.

No Prince. Just no.

The trenches are sexy when Romo has 7 seconds to complete a pass

I never said there couldn't or wouldn't be.

However, you should probably do the research, since it may not be as clear cut as you think.

The Commanders had 3 defensive pro bowlers last year and were 31st in overall defense. The Packers also had 3 and were 5th overall. The Chargers were #1 and had 1 Pro Bowler, and he was an alternate (Shaun Phillips).

There are always outliers in any statistic. But that doesn't mean there is not a positive correlation.

I'm starting to get really amped. I kind of want the lockout to last past the Draft so there is pressure on the teams ahead of us to grab a QB while they still can. Anything to get Snookems Peterson to within grab distance for us.

Gonna operate as if he isn't there and we stay put.

#9. Tyron Smith, OT, USC, 6'5", 310.
Day 1 starter at RT and Colombo is either released or becomes insurance as backup.

#40. Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State, 6'5", 295. Can be a day 1 starter if he pushes himself and beats out Stephen Bowen.

#71. Will Rackley, OG, Lehigh, 6'3", 310. Can be a day 1 starter if he beats out Leonard Davis. I would love that. Yeah, it means two rookies on the right. So what?

#110. John Moffitt, OG, Wisconsin, 6'4", 315. Or he can be a day 1 starter if he can beat out Leonard Davis. The other becomes the replacement for Kosier when he stops in a year or so.

#143. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh, 6'2", 255.
Day 1 starter at FB. I think he makes an immediate impact in the Offense.

#176. Deunta Williams, FS, North Carolina, 6'2", 205. I have no idea why he is still dropping on all the Draft boards I see, but I think he is a steal anywhere past the 3rd round. Could one day take over for fellow Tarheel Gerald Sensabaugh whom I think will team up with Michael Huff in 2011 as our Safety tandem.

#220. Noel Devine, RB/KR/PR, West Virginia, 5'7, 175. Day 1 he is our primary return specialist and our 3rd RB after Barber is cut in a cap move. Dangerous in the open field. What do we do with Dez you ask? Use him in crucial situations where we need him, save him when we don't.

#252. Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama, 6'2", 225.
This is mostly wishful thinking. He is the QB I want. A true football student of the game who reminds me of Jason Garrett in that respect. In fact I think he will one day get into coaching and why not with us? Nothing more than a backup, but those are vital needs. Especially smart ones.

This is a great mock draft. Obviously, I want major offensive line help, and I want Tyron Smith going up to Rodger Goodell and getting his Cowboys jersey. Smith is one of my favorite players in draft history, along with Felix Jones, Terence Newman, DeMarcus Ware, and Jason Witten. Smith is one of the very best players in the draft, and he is one of the safest investments in this draft, a true blue-chip, cornerstone player within the offensive line. (20 years old). This offensive line desperately needs a dominant player, and Smith has the athleticism, agility (footwork), power, length, balance, and mean streak to be a All Pro offensive tackle for many, many years to come. As Broaddus stated, when Smith is 32, he will be in his 13th year.

I'm really starting to want William Rackley enough to trade up into later round 2, too. There will probably be 8 offensive linemen drafted in round 1 (5 OTs and 2 interior players). The Ravens and other teams on the back-end of round 2, have really looked at Rackley. I'm starting to wonder if he will be there in the third round. This is a player that I would trade into late round 2 for if I thought he was good enough and carried the grade for it. If he is a day one starter, like you state, I'm going up for him. The grade would be there.

I'm not going to complain too much about Heyward in round 2, because I got Smith at 9. Heyward, in round 2, is a much better value than J.J. Watt in round 1, imo. Plus, you drafted the best offensive linemen in the draft at 9. Heyward may go round 1, though. It just depends on how teams view his surgery. However, I'd draft Wisniewski at 40 and perhaps, trade up into later round 2 to get Rackley.

You drafted Moffit and went o-line again. "A" for effort there.

Three out of the four first picks are offensive linemen. A+

You added a fullback for Felix Jones. A+ He's an extension of the offensive line. Plus, he's a good one.

You are getting Dez Bryant off returns and using him in "special" situations. Smart move. Plus, no more kickoff returns, period.

You've put the Alabama QB in there so much, that I'm starting to believe. LOL

Sdogo mentioned CB, and the position is so deep, I'd be really surprised if Dallas didn't draft one, because the position is so deep. I'd look to add the depth. You can get a quality one in rounds 2-4. Maybe one slides to round 5.

WR is another deep position, and I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas took one in this draft.

I wonder who is rated higher on Dallas' board, Wisniewski or Rackley? If Rackley is rated higher, perhaps, you could slide down some and take him in round 2.

So many teams need centers (including the Giants, Eagles, and Commanders). I'd be shocked if Wisniewski lasted very long in round 2. I've seen him out of round 2 and going later in round 2. As Bunting states, he's not the strongest, the most athletic, or the biggest, but he's smart, nasty, and technically sound. Furthermore, he has good enough athleticism for the position (according to Bunting), and I hope he's lurking in the shadows for the Cowboys. Wisniewski could start for the Cowboys at C or G, imo. Again, the Cowboys had a scout at his pro day. It's hard to see Dallas not interested in this player.

O.k., maybe I'm jumping the gun on Rackley. I have started to lock on to him in round 3, but he may not last that long. He looks really good in that 3rd round (at 71). That is about right for him. I've got him in my mock right there at 71.

Pat Kirwin didn't have Rackley in his round 2 mock, so that is good. He is rising though and could sneak into late round 2, especially to those playoff teams like the Packers and Ravens.

Kirwan gave Wisniewski to the Colts in round 2. He gave Hudson to the Raiders in round 2 (48). Wisniewski has a Raiders connection.

There is another intriguing option at OG.

Jason Pinkston

He played OT and will play at 24 this year. His age could cause him to fall some. Bunting thinks that he could start at guard his rookie year, and 24 is a whole lot younger than 33. He has a Cowboys connection, via his former head coach at Pittsburgh. Pinkston is a good third round option if Rackley is not there. Perhaps, he falls into early four. However, I'm not so sure about that.

On the 8 offensive linemen going in round 1:

5 OTs:

Tyron Smith
Anthony Castonzo
Derek Sherrod
Nate Solder
Gabe Carimi

3 Interior:

Mike Pouncy
Danny Watkins
?

Draft Insider reports that at least one team has 3 interior players going round one, and they speculated that it may be Marcus Cannon. If true, that could push the second round interior players up in round 2 and push another player into round 2, probably. Is that player Rackley?

Excellent draft...lets do it...it has balance and addresses needs and is good value across the board

Very nice draft overall. Like some others have commented, I probably would look to address DB more at some point, probably in place of one of the OL. I think it will take more than one draft to fix our OL.

Me saying that the draft was not sexy was not a knock on the mock. I was simply saying the majority of people like big named rbs, qbs, wr, and cbs to think they had a good draft. Hos mock did not consist of any of those things but we would be a much better team with a draft like that instead of drafting AJ Green as some have suggested. I think Green will be good, but definitely not a need of ours in the first.

I like this mock. The problem is that because it's so good, it will never happen unfortunately.

Run the numbers, I'd be interested to see the results.
