I remember when people laughed at the idea of a space force. Not trying to get into the P-word here. I just love keeping up with military tech. And I think this is pretty awesome.
I would bet there's some of these satellites already in place. Just my hunch.Proposed. Not active

Agree. I think there's probably nuke capability up there too.I thought it was a good idea at the time because it was ahead of the curve. The writing was on the wall that other countries (non-friendly) were going to catch up in space and start doing things there, like China's satellite dog-fighting practice. As much of a joke as people thought the "Space Force" was, it serves a real need. Very few countries actually signed agreements for limiting hostilities in space, and fewer still obeyed their agreements. I'm sure there are nukes up there.

Seems to me that this Iron Dome should be offered for the entire planet. Would eliminate the nuclear threat of EVERYONE! Everybody would love that solution I’m sure.
Agreed because u know that if we have our Iron Dome China will develop their own and there is a good chance that they could develop their own sooner. It seems that it would just become another level of MAD. Crazy world for sure…To me, it seems like that would be possible with this Golden Dome, which would/could have thousands of anti-ICBM defense satellites capable of intercepting them if not in the launch phase then in the intermediate phase.
With all the tension in today's world, I'd be for it, too.
People still believe what China and Russia claim? And of course, China and Russia both already have anti-satellite missile systems capable of destroying US military satellites in orbit.
The only problem, and this is what a lot of environmentalists and scientists either don't know or leave out, is that the nuclear testing in the atmosphere depletes the ozone layer, which is the likely the real cause of climate change, imo.Agreed because u know that if we have our Iron Dome China will develop their own and there is a good chance that they could develop their own sooner. I'd hope the systems take out the ICBMs in space...the detonation could still have devastating effects on our environment if there were enough of them.
Standing there with your arms down and your chin out is pretty stupid when facing enemiesSounds great but in reality this just creates another arms race.
If we build a system that is capable of knocking out all incoming nuclear threats, our adversaries will see this as an offensive threat. If they can't attack us successfully, then we can attack them without concern for a counter attack. Mutually Assured Destruction is broken, and, our adversaries will immediately begin developing weapons systems to defeat the iron dome, if that's what it is called.
The next step in this process would be to develop intelligent delivery systems. China is supposedly already developing a system to put missiles in orbit which can "lurk" in space for years until they are activated for attack. The missiles would then use AI to identify targets and defeat defense systems.
And of course, China and Russia both already have anti-satellite missile systems capable of destroying US military satellites in orbit.
Technology advancements make weapons more effective, but that same technology makes counter-weaponry more effective too.
I suppose the argument is, we have no choice. Russia is developing, and supposedly has already deployed, hypersonic missiles. China has made advances too. Until we solve our geopolitical problems I suppose an arms race is the only option we have.
Why, there are less detentions than there used to be so stands it seems to track? Although the ban on CFCs is really the most relevant cause of the ozone replenishment.https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/2024-antarctic-ozone-hole-ranks-7th-smallest-since-recovery-began
So this kind of makes your claim invalid
the last surface nuclear test was in 1974 by the FrenchWhy, there are less detentions than there used to be so stands it seems to track? Although the ban on CFCs is really the most relevant cause of the ozone replenishment.
word gets out as regards tests; and there have been nothing but underground testing since 1974 so show ANY evidence of your claimI always consider the fact things like this are often classified.
Not to mention, ground based testing likely also has an impact.
Like I said before, JMO.
