We have #18 in the 1st. We have our 2nd, 3rd, 5th, & 7th. We also have Philadelphia's 6th.

Our 4th went to Philly in the deal to draft Canty. We got their 6th.

Our 6th went to KC for Scott Fujita.

There could be conditional picks added after Free Agency takes its bite. Not known at this time.

With big ticket signings Marco Rivera, Drew Bledsoe, Anthony Henry and Jason Ferguson, I'm not expecting any conditional draft selections added to our allottment.

We lost nothing compared to the players we signed.

I don't think signings have anything to do with it. Just who you lose via FA.

Somehow I think that number will go up (Glover/Ellis). Well hopefully...

I think it balances itself out Hos. If we sign a former first rounder but lose one, we don't get anything for it. But if we lose a first rounder but only sing a sixth rounder we would be compensated. At least I think that is how it works. I do know it is somehow tied to what we sign versus what we lose. I think.

With what a total waste of money Marco Rivera is we deserve at least a 3rd rounder for SIGNING that waste of a roster spot.

It is who you lose, and their contributions to that team, and what their original draft status was also. Who you sign has no bearing on compensation, because the teams that lost that player will get compensated. You do not get penalized for signing a good player via FA.

We signed Henry, he played great until injured. So the Browns will get a higher pick, say maybe a 3rd round, but if Henry was a backup or Special Teams only player they would get maybe a 6th.

So who we lost and how they played depends on our picks, if any.

Compensatory picks are awarded not only by the number of players lost vs those signed but it also takes into account playing time, salary, and any post season honors awarded.

Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

I really doubt we get any comp picks this year....

I think it is the balance of signed vs. lost.

Since this would be based on guys we drafted around '00 and '01 who hit the market last year -- and since those drafts sucked so badly, we aren't losing anyone of value and won't have conditional picks.

The one guy who might have got us a pick -- because he performed so well this year - would be Matt Lehr. But I think we can't get a pick b/c we cut him before the final game in '04 rather than letting his contract run out.

Geez, I wish we had Buffalo's pick THIS YEAR... they're 5-11 on the 05 season... Dallas picked Buffalo's traded 1st, off of their 9-7 season from 04... RRRRGH!! Did we get robbed or what, LOL?? Overall, I'm glad that pick landed us Spears. I'll bet he has a better season next year.
