And that downfall came in the playoff loss to New York . Take a good look at what happened in that game. Our w.r's were beyond ineffective. You had Owens catching a whopping 4 passes for 49 yards, Terry Glenn who looked like he was playing on 2 broken ankles and ended up producing ZIP, and Patrick Crayton dropping passes and making boneheaded mistakes all over the field. THAT is exactly what happened. Its been reported by the media in NY and admitted by the Giant D.B's that Terrel COULD NOT get off the line and beat the jam. The NY d.b's lobbied Spagnolo at halftime to let them Jam the Cowboys receivers and allow the rest of the defense to blitz Romo into the ground. They did too. Romo was under constant fire with nowhere to throw and nowhere to run to. TO and Glenn were rendered useless by the N.Y man to man D that jammed them at the line. Then we have Crayton dropping game changing passes that should have been completed even though Romo was running for his life. And then, even after ALL THIS.........Romo leads the Cowboys offense downfield to the New York 25. 2nd to the last play of the game. Evades the rush and throws a perfect TOUCHDOWN STRIKE to Crayton,................Only Crayton stopped his route:eek: Gave up on his route, for no apparent reason. GAME OVER. Crayton has HIMSELF admitted this, the staff too has admitted this, so please.......no rewriting of history. And yet there are those you want to lay the blame for the demise of the Cowboys at the feet of Tony Romo?? Please......GET REAL and go rewatch that game. Our problems STARTED with this recieiving corp, and now they will end with this recieving corp. This is a new beginning , and im betting a VERY successfull one at that.

AMEN!
You can even throw in Glenn's fumble in his own endzone against Seattle the year before. Romo has definitely played well enough to win in the postseason, but it takes an entire team to win a game. I worry about our defensive backfield (a few holes now) and our O-line (they were awful at the end of last year). I don't worry about our QB. I've seen enough that tells me he's one of the best in the league. Many won't agree, but we'll see what he's accomplished by the time his career is over.

My take was that the OLine disappeared in the second half of that game.

It was almost as if they ran out of gas after Barber got 100+ yards of rushing in the first half.

Far too many of the younger fans havent had a chance to see what real NFL football looked like in the not so distant past. D.B's of the modern era have been totally hamstrung by the league office. They did this to promote passing/scoring, which leads to more excitement, which leads to more fans, which leads to MORE MONEY.:) With these new rules NFL defenses have been forced to change how they defend w.r's. Nowadays ZONES are far more the norm then they EVER were in the past. This allows w.r's to run unaccosted thru open holes in a zone defense. REAL BIG CHALLENGE THERE... I bring this up to make a point. In most cases it is the QB that makes the W.R, not the other way around. NFL gm's, you know, the guys that ACTUALLY BUILD NFL teams would seem to overwhelmingly agree with me too based upon how salaries are slotted for different positions. Ever notice how SO CALLED game changing w.r's always seem to have bigtime QB's throwing them the ball? Ever notice how certain teams like say Chicago never seem to have any bigtime receivers? Its because they dont have the elite QB dummy!...LOL Ever notice what happens to w.rs that have big years playing with great QB's and leave in freeagency only to go to teams without a good QB? They usually do SQUAT. Alvin Harper/Javon Walker, I could go on and on. Take Tom Brady for instance........VERY pedestrian receiving corp yet he won trophy after trophy. The one year he did have a so called elite w.r they lost...Ironic isnt it. My point in all this? Its wayyyyyyyyyyy more about the Q.B then it is about the W.R. Not even close in fact. Were gonna be just fine without T.O. Heck,.....when considering the 4 skill positions on offense Qb, RB, W.R and TE, W.r comes in THIRD on the list for overall importance in relationship to WINNING games. Some may disagree with me, fact is.......History and the ACTUAL FACTS support my case.

...............Yep,...they did. But a BIG part of it was because they were under constant heavy attack from the NY defenders due to our W.R's complete inability to get off the line of scrimmage. From that point on the giants blitzed us into the ground, all that plus the dominant d line they had.

Fact is, Brett Favre put up HUGE numbers year after year with some pretty average w.r's around him. I mean, anybody think a guy like Donald driver would be a bigtime talent had he played in Detroit with Joey Harrington chucking him the ball? My point AGAIN........Its alot more about the QB then it is about the W.R.

Larry Fitzgerald is a fantastic talent. My favorite by a longshot. But consider this..........What kind of an impact did Kurt Warner have on his career these last 2 years vs catching passes from Matt Leinert? We ALL KNOW the answer.....a HUGE impact. In closing........were gonna be just fine. CANT WAIT for the season to start so the whiners will be FORCED to go silent.

Having great WRs has never been the reason why teams won. If you don't have a QB capable of getting them the ball or an O-Line capable of giving said QB time to throw the ball, then the WRs are irrelevant.

Good posts AH.

........Agreed. So many things have to go right for the w.r to even have a chance to get the ball. Those things happen FIRST.

Yep. Our OL is a huge problem and I for one don't understand why more folks aren't talking about it. They are SERIOUSLY overrated by many on this board.

Thats the problem, its easy to say that - but then its hard to single out which linemen aren't getting it done.

I just believe the unit as a whole doesn't look in shape or very disciplined, and the blame arrow spins wildly in the direction of Hudson Houck.

...........Agreed. Flo is who I have by far the biggest problem with. For three reasons. 1.......he seems to play with MAX EFFORT when HE WANTS to instead of when he needs to. 2....He's O.K as a passblocker but fairly overated even in that respect. 3......Horrid run blocker, always has been. Run blocking is about WANT TO, about having the fire in the belly to take on your man, then head upfield and get into the 2nd level of defenders and get on one of them too. That kinda heart Flo doesnt have.........

Ya, Flo is tremendously overpaid. Penalty after penalty after penalty. Has about three/four really good games when he really steps it up, but for the most part - he's overrated and definitely overpaid.

Hold it ... you mean we a bus driver at QB isn't enough?
