You try to take inventory, but you can't. This once solid playoff contender has turned three-ring circus in a quagmire of bad luck and unthinkable headlines.

Metatarsals and clavicles, monkeys and PETA, Krakens and Christines. Running backs gone AWOL, and receivers who've done pretty much the same on game day. Do Cole Beasley and Gavin Escobar still play for Dallas? What'd we get in those trades?

The only thing certain about 2015 so far is how damn good Tony Romo is. That, and how these mostly talented others must figure out a way to get this boat to Romo's dock without going under. Dallas just ran against a death gauntlet of quarterbacks, and despite some close calls, remain empty handed. Kaput.

Next is Bradford, Winston, and Tannehill. Whew, that sounds far more doable, and I'd bet hopes are that Romo plays against none of them because it might not be prudent to play him twice in four days fresh off a broken shoulder. We'll see where things stand in two weeks.

You can bet tension is high at Valley Ranch. The Jones boys are seething, and the coaching staff is scrambling, trying to justify themselves as more than Romo dependents. The wild card is pretty much gone, but the good fortune remains as this bumbling division just can't run away and hide amidst Dallas' futility.

Perhaps, however, it is setting up perfectly.

While Romo mends, his back is safe. His arm is fresh. His ribs are intact, and his aging body is bruise-less. By Thanksgiving, oddly enough, he will be the healthiest quarterback in the NFL that matters. Maybe. If.

If somehow, Romo can leave the field on Thanksgiving Day at least 5-6, then everything this team wished for is still very possible.

The Eagles, Giants, and Commanders don't have a Tony Romo on the way. They are already what they pathetically are, iffy 7-9 teams trying to get to 8 or 9 wins. The Cowboys remain an injured 12-4 team trying to salvage 8 or 9 wins to get to the tournament. That is a distinct difference that favors Dallas. If.

If by hook or crook, the Cowboys can get to 8-8, I think they win the division. That means a home game, very likely against Seattle. I like this team's chances against that team with a healthy Romo and Dez next time. Don't you?

And if they can win that game, they get another chance in the divisional round, either at Arizona, Green Bay, or Carolina. THOSE are the four best teams in the NFC, I believe, when all hands are on deck.

What a weird season so far. And what a memorable season it could be. Romo could not only quiet his critics, he could send them to Kraken's dungeon for good. The Cowboys could rise like zombies and eat the rest of the division whole. Delicious.

If you listen carefully, the murmurs through the NFC East fear just that. Winter is coming, so you'd better kill this beast while you still have the chance.

Lot of words to say the Cowboys season effectively ends Sunday, but if it doesn't LOOK OUT WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL.

*waives pom poms*

Wow, interesting translation.

No, it says the Cowboys are the only upper echelon team when healthy, and they're dadgum lucky to be in this division. I didn't put them in the Super Bowl, and having to go the road route again doesn't bode well for that even if they get to the tournament.

If we can beat Philly and TB, I think we will win the Division. But that is a huge IF. As they have not shown they can win at all.
I do think NY and Philly will lose at least 3 or 4 more games each. And the Commanders will need to take one each from them too.

But we must beat Philly, and Commanders twice to hold the division tie breakers.

Always enjoy your write ups Erod.
My only concern when Romo comes back is keeping him upright. The back is a funny thing and when left dormant (for future physical activity) will not get better but actually worse. I'm sure Romo is on the massage table and doing everything he can to get healthy however with all his battle scars, and time off it's going to be tough to get immediately back up to speed. With all these losses, not sure he'll have time and more importantly the health to stay in the huddle after he comes back. Lastly, the blood is in the water and defenses know one more good blow to Romo and the DC are dead.

Its not reaching at all, that scenario very well could happen...............its right there;

And "Romo dependents" is a great term., becuase thats what just about everybody on this team is; Which I dont particularly like..........

But to keep it 100. I try to be as objective as I can. ---- I dont think it happens; Not our year. I dont see it....They drop a few or more games against NY, Carolina. Bills, Miami, GB, whoever,,,,,,,probably the skins. by a last minute FG or TD......

Ive mentally prepared for it. I see those 8-8 years all over this team. Last year may have very well been a "fluke"

Im sorry. I dont mean to be a debbie downer....Just my 2 cents;

The stars are in poor alignment right now for sure, but the difference between this group and those 8-8 rosters is a much better offensive line and defense.

I just want to see the divisional standings when Romo returns. A game out or less, and the Cowboys are in good shape. Two down or more, and it's going to be a steep climb.

Yeah. Despite all my discontent. I havent fully given up yet.............. only becuase the East sucks.

Any other division. And we are talking about firing Garrett and the draft.

except the AFCS. Colts and Texas tied for first at 3-5........ Andrew Luck really does have a lucky beard.
