The Washington Commanders are eliminated from the playoffs

The second down play was clearly short of the first down line and the refs didn't want to give the Skins a free TO with a measurement. One official mistakenly ruled first down, but the Head Official was clearly calling 3rd down before the play. There is no excuse for the confusion, but the mistake had no impact on the game. A wide open Fred Davis flat out dropped the 20 yd pass and then Garcon caught the 4th and 1 pass for about 5 yards. He was then stripped of the ball and the Giants won. Down and distance didn't matter.

Triplett's an awful referee. Just google triplett bad call. This guy and his team are terrible, but they continue to get put on the field year after year. One ranking of head official referees called him the worst of all the NFL crews. And he still gets the call, year after year.....

the best part of it all.....is no more crappy Skins fans posting here!!!! Good bye - and Good Riddance

Wow, I'm not a Skin fan but I'd be pissed about what happened at the end of the game if I were. That's just a terrible job by the refs, and they all should be fined for the way that was handled. If this game was meaningful, that stunt at the end could've potentially cost a team a spot in the playoffs.

This is what happened for those that didn't see it.

On the last drive of the game, the Commanders are attempting to tie up a 7 point decefit. Pass to Garçon on 2nd down was borderline a first down, so Shannahan asks the ref for a measurement. The ref tells him it's a first down so no measurement is needed. Commanders then call a 20 yard pass play thinking it's 1st and 10. The pass was incomplete, then the refs switch the downs to 4th and 1. On the very next play it's a short pass to Garçon that gets the ball taken from him, and ball game.

I think the refs should have to answer for this, because that's a terrible job. I won't be surprised if this is a blown up story tommorrow, because they really dropped the ball on that situation. Luckily for them though, the game was meaningless.

Anyone else see this?

If it happened that way, as much as I hate the Commanders, that's absolutely inexcusable.. Nobody should side with that BS...

Surprise surprise, it's on the front page of ESPN. I wonder what statements the NFL will release regarding to the situation, or if they'll just sweep it under the rug. This year the refs have been down right atrocious, even more so than usual.

i love seeing the Commanders being elimated from contention!

separately -- it didn't cost them the game, like last year's seahawks-packers debacle, but that first down -- no, we mean fourth down nonsense was horrible.

the nfl should be embarassed by the officiating screw-ups this year.
