Bynum is good and gasol is great but like dirk, has always messed up in the spotlight.

Define always. I seem to remember Dirk being pretty good in a game seven a few years ago. ;)

And though his series against the Warriors last year is well documented, his play at the end of game five is the reason it even lasted six games.

As for Bynum, I like him but it is far from certain whether he will return to full strength in time to make an impact this year AND play at the same level pre-injury. He was initially supposed to return early this month, yet recent reports say he is still doing jogging in water. It may be early to mid-April before he comes back, and how is he going to fit into the rotation with Gasol?

The Lakers have a very bright future, but I'm not so sure it begins with a championship this year.

Up until his injury he was the 3rd best center in the NBA behind Dwight, and Yao.

thats debatable, and even then its not like great centers are a dime a dozen right now. Im not denying that he might be a great player one day, but its not like he was spectacular or anything pre injury, he was just a very solid young player. The injury he suffered is not something you can easily come back from and i just dont see him being as good this year as people want him to be, maybe in a year or two, i mean, the kid is still very young.

you know i dont literally mean ALWAYS! but if the game is on the line and the opposing team has the ball dirk is someone im comfortable with trying to beat my team, as opposed to say kobe, lebron, ginobili, tmac, paul pierce and so on. Dont forget, in that seven game series, dirks team had a 3-1 lead and almost blew it, and even in game seven, they had a 20+ point lead at halftime and lost the lead. Its not like dirk took it away from us, the players that hurt us the most were harris and diop.

as for your assessment of bynum, i think your right on the money

:D

Hey, just keeping you on your toes.

I'm pretty much in agreement with everything you wrote above. Dirk has his moments, but as you pointed out I don't think he's ever felt comfortable being "the man", unfortunately.
