In my humble opinion, I think the Cowboys let an opportunity slip through their fingers, and let a window largely close without taking advantage of that opportunity. Most teams have had a huge percentage of their salary cap tied up in their franchise QB, while the Cowboys have had Romo at a very friendly cap number. I think this is also true with Austin prior to his resigning. The cap savings from those two positions (which are normally a huge chunk of cap) could have been used to put us over the top. That advantage is gone with Austin, and has diminished with respect to Romo. It's a shame that we found a top 5 QB UNDRAFTED off of the scrap heap, and haven't parlayed that into a super bowl victory by now.
