There have been some great discussions of late, debating if Jerry will ever surrender control of football operations to an actual football expert (i.e., GM). And there have been equally great debates if Stephen might consider hiring a legitimate NFL GM once Jerry is gone, assuming he outlives Jerry. Under the banner of hope, I have listed the scenarios that would bring hope back to those of us that have loved the Cowboys our entire life. They are listed in no particular order and note that these are all far fetched scenarios.
  1. Charlette Jones is the only one I think I has half a brain and a shred of decency. If the franchise ever falls into her hands, I have hope she would hire a GM and let them do their job without micromanagement. Unfortunately, Charlette ending up as the top decision maker seems like a long-shot but I have a sliver of hope.

  2. Stephen Jones takes over after Jerry passes and hires a GM. I've not seen anything from Stephen to indicate he would do anything different than his dad. And he seems to be full of the same hubris as Jerry, a chip off the old block. The other fear I have if Stephen hired a real GM is that he would micromanage and undermine the GM's authority.

  3. Jerry stops his defiant insistence on making every football decision and hires a GM. IMO, Jerry would have to receive a blow to the head in an accident to induce the type of behavior required to put winning above his own disgusting ego. I literally never see this happening, ever. Jerry's pattern has been the hotter the heat, the more defiant he becomes and the offseason is a prime example. I just don't think Jerry can be shamed into hiring a GM even as we continue our death spiral this season.

  4. The NFL steps in and removes the franchise from Jerry and the Jones family. Jerry Richardson and Daniel Snyder are two great examples of owners so abhorrent in their behavior, policies, and actions that the NFL (the other owners) actually forced them to sell their teams. Anyone following the Cowboys the past 30+ years have seen the Jerry stories about all kinds of behavior similar to Richardson & Snyder. I'm confident Jerry has done most of the same things that cost the other owners their franchises but Jerry makes too much money for the NFL for them to remove him from ownership. And sadly, that is what makes it so depressing to be a Cowboy fan.

For those who will say "so find another team", you don't understand what it's been like to live through the amazing Landry years with two championships as well as the Jimmy Johnson-built 3x championship years only to be run in the ground by a fool for three decades and not a divisional playoff win to show for it. I have loved the Cowboys since my dad and my older brother introduced me to the team as a little kid and I will always be a fan no matter what horrors the Jones family continues to bring on this franchise.

Hope is so important in life and in sports. It inspires and it produces better effort from players, coaches, and teams. The candle of hope in Dallas has been flickering more faintly than ever as we approach the dreaded 30 year anniversary of our last div playoff win. As we approach this inevitable low point as a franchise with no idea how much lower we can go, just remember it never had to be this way. But hubris, nepotism, and incompetence are a deadly cocktail, distinguishing even the most fervent fan's hopes.

SJ strikes me as a guy that would not embrace running the team. I can see the team being sold or him hiring a GM he feels comfortable with, prob someone like Mike Tannenbaum lol.

That would be great. Jerry poured his heart and soul into this team, it's his and he can do as he pleases. I respect that, I'd probably be doing the same if I was him. Take care of my family, first. That said, hiring a true GM with some real authority would be a breath of fresh air, provide some excitement and it would also be good for Bob's health.

Stephen has been interning for 35 years to be the Cowboys GM, why hire a GM? I am giving him and Will McClay one, MAYBE two, rebuilds to see what they can do as new decision makers before I start asking for a GM.

Hopefully Stephen doesnt have main character syndrome and will hire a GM if he isnt successful early on.

Lots of wishful thinking here.....but these clowns will stay in charge of all football operations and never cede control to anyone outside their clan

Glad you’re so pleased with the playoff results the past 29 seasons. It’s all because Jerry did it all his own way. You might be the only fan on this forum that feels that way. Have you been day drinking again?

Does Jerry have no responsibility to the local community that poured millions and millions of dollars over the decades into this franchise? Does Jerry not have a responsibility to all fans to put together the best team and the best organization?

He's an intentionally obtuse and contrarian clown because he has nothing better to do with his life.

2. Yes you have. Stephen has stated that when he takes over he will hire a real GM. Now, will he? Who knows, but there is stated evidence.

No....he doesn't. No one is forcing you or anyone else to support his business. All I know is that the Cowboys donates millions to the salvation army. Maybe you can stand in front of a Walmart with a bell and bucket and do your part.

Oh I know. Go figure, a fan who is happy with Jerry “running it (micromanaging it) to the detriment of winning when it matters. I guess there are all kind of “fans” here lol.

Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos is our best hope. One of them needs to make Jerry an offer he can't refuse. Other than that, I'm resigned to the fact that I will never see the Cowboys ever win a championship in my lifetime.

I dont think the Jones family will ever sell the team.
All hope that remains is for them to step back a bit and get a GM do the thing
you trying to apply logic to the jones family?

Big mistake.

Someone richer than them will offer them 12 hundred billion dollars.

It happens to almost every family where the one that made the money dies.

It's more probable than you think. A trust owns the cowboys but once Jerral kicks off the ownership split of the trust will change. If enough of the new shareholders want to cash out then you'll see the Broncos scenario play out.
