There have been some great discussions of late, debating if Jerry will ever surrender control of football operations to an actual football expert (i.e., GM). And there have been equally great debates if Stephen might consider hiring a legitimate NFL GM once Jerry is gone, assuming he outlives Jerry. Under the banner of hope, I have listed the scenarios that would bring hope back to those of us that have loved the Cowboys our entire life. They are listed in no particular order and note that these are all far fetched scenarios.
  1. Charlette Jones is the only one I think I has half a brain and a shred of decency. If the franchise ever falls into her hands, I have hope she would hire a GM and let them do their job without micromanagement. Unfortunately, Charlette ending up as the top decision maker seems like a long-shot but I have a sliver of hope.

  2. Stephen Jones takes over after Jerry passes and hires a GM. I've not seen anything from Stephen to indicate he would do anything different than his dad. And he seems to be full of the same hubris as Jerry, a chip off the old block. The other fear I have if Stephen hired a real GM is that he would micromanage and undermine the GM's authority.

  3. Jerry stops his defiant insistence on making every football decision and hires a GM. IMO, Jerry would have to receive a blow to the head in an accident to induce the type of behavior required to put winning above his own disgusting ego. I literally never see this happening, ever. Jerry's pattern has been the hotter the heat, the more defiant he becomes and the offseason is a prime example. I just don't think Jerry can be shamed into hiring a GM even as we continue our death spiral this season.

  4. The NFL steps in and removes the franchise from Jerry and the Jones family. Jerry Richardson and Daniel Snyder are two great examples of owners so abhorrent in their behavior, policies, and actions that the NFL (the other owners) actually forced them to sell their teams. Anyone following the Cowboys the past 30+ years have seen the Jerry stories about all kinds of behavior similar to Richardson & Snyder. I'm confident Jerry has done most of the same things that cost the other owners their franchises but Jerry makes too much money for the NFL for them to remove him from ownership. And sadly, that is what makes it so depressing to be a Cowboy fan.

For those who will say "so find another team", you don't understand what it's been like to live through the amazing Landry years with two championships as well as the Jimmy Johnson-built 3x championship years only to be run in the ground by a fool for three decades and not a divisional playoff win to show for it. I have loved the Cowboys since my dad and my older brother introduced me to the team as a little kid and I will always be a fan no matter what horrors the Jones family continues to bring on this franchise.

Hope is so important in life and in sports. It inspires and it produces better effort from players, coaches, and teams. The candle of hope in Dallas has been flickering more faintly than ever as we approach the dreaded 30 year anniversary of our last div playoff win. As we approach this inevitable low point as a franchise with no idea how much lower we can go, just remember it never had to be this way. But hubris, nepotism, and incompetence are a deadly cocktail, distinguishing even the most fervent fan's hopes.
I think Stephen is an idiot and been trained by his dad, but not sure if he has the same oversized ego that his dad has. a lot of times it feels like Jerry is got his hand up his arse moving his lips...he will probably hire a GM, but just like his Dad, it will be a mid level, cheaper one and his focus much like his dad will be on making money. I don't think he is quite as good a sales man as his dad and he won't be as good in money making.

I don't think the NFL will remove the franchise, because they are spending within limits. we had three 12-5 seasons. so what excuse will NFL have to remove them? if they win some 8 or 9 games a year and never make it to the superbowl, what's the difference between them and cleveland or detroit or AZ?

I am not going to find another team. I just lose emotions over the losses and incompetence of the team. I have become numb. and Jerry just doesn't care. he just does not care about ardent, die hard fans. he cares about fringe and casual fans, because that's how you expand the pie...truly die hard, fans represent probably 10% of his fandom.....and even in that group there are those who continue to fully support...take a look around this board.

Stephen has been interning for 35 years to be the Cowboys GM, why hire a GM? I am giving him and Will McClay one, MAYBE two, rebuilds to see what they can do as new decision makers before I start asking for a GM.

Hopefully Stephen doesnt have main character syndrome and will hire a GM if he isnt successful early on.
Only reason I have any hope in Cap Boy hiring a GM is because he cares even less than Daddy. He looks totally uninterested up in the box, bloated, checking his phone while snacking on urinal cakes.

This is a great post and you hit on a lot of pain points for me and other lifelong fans.

He doesn’t even know who you are....you keep coming back like a true fan should, so it is on you, just like it'd be on me if I hated him.
That reeks of irrelevance. Can I hate Hitler even though he doesn't know who I am? How about serial killers and child abusers, do I have your permission to hate them even though they don't know who I am?

Honestly, you have a very weird stance going on this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No....he doesn't. No one is forcing you or anyone else to support his business. All I know is that the Cowboys donates millions to the salvation army. Maybe you can stand in front of a Walmart with a bell and bucket and do your part.
I forgot about Jerry’s Salvation Army donations. That changes everything and now I look forward to out first deep playoff run in 29 years. You seem to have an inside track to Jerry’s musings, please enlighten us when fans can experience a deep playoff run.

I really don't care. I had fun today. Life is too short to worry about Jerry.

At one point , Stephen said he would be willing to hire a GM.
Don't know if he's changed his mind

I don’t trust Stephen to let a GM do their job with complete authority and if he meddles with a potential new GM, then we’re not much better off than our current broken model.

It's more probable than you think. A trust owns the cowboys but once Jerral kicks off the ownership split of the trust will change. If enough of the new shareholders want to cash out then you'll see the Broncos scenario play out.
I admit I need more info on the Broncos situation.
Can you please be kind enough to explian?

Those who say find another team can suck it.

Loyalty isn't a choice and it doesn't absolve anyone of criticism.

You can't undo your history with the team, and the memories you have. Most of us grew up rooting for these guys, with our dad, our best buddies, and so on. You don't just turn your back on that. You weather the storm.

Simple. Pat Bowlen, the owner of the Broncos, died in 2019. The Broncos were owned by a trust that he controlled. The ownership of the trust was spread out over several family members and a few got together and formed a majority that forced the sale of the team. Basically, the kids wanted their drug/fun money, not an NFL franchise.

I couldn’t have said it better. Thank you for saying this on behalf of longtime fans.
