The X factor?

Doubt it.
Did you see the hit he put on Adam Humphreys last year. He had receivers looking for him before extending their arms to catch the ball. Now I'm not saying (like the article seems to imply) that he'll be better than or equal to Earl Thomas, but he's still pretty good. With room to grow.

Woods is not physically in the same universe as Earl Thomas. Thomas ran a 4.37 at his pro day.
Xavier Woods was 4.54 at the combine. Even discounting the pro day numbers a little, that's a huge difference.

Speed matters a lot for a FS. It's what lets you play single high and cover the field. Earl's ability to play single high effectively made all the difference for the Seahawks. It let them keep the SS in the box while still having over the top help for the CBs. Which let them go big, long, and strong at CB, sacrificing some speed. It made everything work.

Speed doesn't guarantee that you can play single high (see Byron for details), but if you're too slow, you just can't get there in time.

Go and look at the GOAT's big plays. All speed and anticipation (good hands too). He simply got there when you'd think he wouldn't. Whether it was jumping a ball, tracking down a ball, or cutting off a runner.

Sorry but Xavier Woods is not even in the same conversation as Earl Thomas. Woods also flaws and is much slower while having a smaller body. He has made some plays but has also been beat.

The X factor? I'm going to New Orleans right before the season and I'm finding me a good cemetery and an... already dead cat.
Fresh, but dead.

Aw shoot. That's not going to be good enough, huh?
I don't want to kill a cat!

I’m thinking Everson Walls might be the guy who steps up

So will there be those doing a comparison of X vs E all year long. And post good or bad things about them and the FO choices all year long. Mostly from those that always put things down. Even though X may be doing well.

Maybe deservingly so, maybe not. We will see.
