oh i agree! i think its a great move, its not always about how good a player is, jeter will be go down as one of the greatest yankees ever, in the same breath as the babe, DiMaggio, lou, yogi, mantle, etc. He needs to finish off his career with the yanks and im glad they were able to work it out, and i thought they should have gone as high as needed to keep him, specially with his 3000 hit coming.

if you want to go by teams worth, man u, the cowboys, and the Commanders are all worth more than the yanks. if you want to go by how much a team has to spend, chelsea and real madrid both have more money to spend than the yankees.

burnett and pavano were mistakes, doesnt matter that other teams wanted them, the yankees should not have outbid other teams for mediocre pitchers, thats a mistake your perfect yankees made. trading for berkman was another mistake. the yankees make mistakes and great calls just like any other team in sports, they arent any better or worse at it. the two teams that trully do make other franchises look stupid are the patriots and spurs, and thats it.

True. They make mistakes.. alot of them in fact. Trying to buy the best players at every position and thinking they'll have the team chemistry it takes to win championships every year is absurd. They have just as many bad signings as any other team.

There's a reason they've only won 1 World Series since 2000.

The Yankees arn't morons.. but they arn't geniuses either. Far from it. They signed Jeter to whatever he wanted basically, as they should have. Its got nothing to do with finances.. as it rarely does with the Yanks. However, in this one case, the salary was warrented. Jeter IS the Yankees in this generation.

That being said, they've made plenty of mistakes with signings over the years, just like every other team. The difference is, they throw out ridiculous sums of money to try and make sure when they do make mistakes they still get some production. The reason their formula hasn't had success lately is because they try and buy all star teams and think they'll win, instead of trying to put together a team that has the intangibles and chemistry that it takes to go all the way.
