I'll check you out next year.If you want the kind of deal Chucky got, let me know when you're about a week or so out. You should be able to get the $200 Visa card, too, Tyke![]()

Last Thursday I called Customer Service and told them I wanted to close my account as of September 1st due to how expensive it's gotten. They offered to give me $20 off per month for 6 months, I declined. Based upon the experience of others here I was anticipating that I would get a call back from Customer Retention. My plan was to hold out for free NFL Sunday Ticket, plus some sort of additional monthly discount. Well it's been a week and no call so far. I'm still holding out hope, but have decided that if they don't call I am going to bite the bullet and finally cut the cord. It will sting not being able to watch the Cowboys every week, but at least I'll be able to listen to the games on SiriusXM Radio.
Where do you live?
New Jersey
You might have to go to the bar for a few, but I got 14 of 16 games last year over HD antenna in the Commanders market.
We're out in the woods in the Northwestern part of NJ, from what I've seen I don't think we'll be able get a signal on an HD antenna. I've tried a couple websites where you put in your zip code and they predict how many channels you'll be able to get and it doesn't look promising.

I have done this on and off over the past ten years. Sometimes half off, sometimes premium channels for six months. The yearly DirecTV dance...well played OP. I was dreading the call but sucked it up last night. I've been with DirecTV for over 15 years so I'd like to think that I have some pull. That pull varies depending on whom I speak with and what country they currently live in.
I started the call off like a house of fire. Whining and complaining about how all of these people that I know ALWAYS get the ticket for free but ME! Dude did the song and dance and tried to make me happy before breaking the bad news to me. I call it the yearly blue balls discount. $10 off programming for the next 6 months. Finally, he's forced to answer my 'what can you do for me on the Ticket price' question. I get the 'please hold while I speak to my supervisor' line. Dude comes back with..'Unfortunately sir, we can't do anything to help reduce the Ticket price but we CAN get you an additional $20 off of programming for the next 6 months making it a total of $30/month for 6 months.'
At this point, I'm raging inside but I calmly ask him to remove the Ticket from my account. I then hear a bunch of 'Umms', 'Ahhs' & a 'REALLY?!?'. 'Hi Sir, I probably should have checked your account when you initially called because it looks to me as if you had already been given the 2017-18 NFL ticket for FREE. Yep, you are definitely getting it for free this year. So I guess we can go back and...' I immediately cut him off, say thank you and hang up. I know he was about to remove the discounts he had given me prior to him discovering the free ticket. 3 minutes later, he calls back but I never pick up. He tries again later on in the night with the same outcome. I got into work this AM, placed a call to confirm that I was still receiving my discounts and the free ticket and hung up with a smile on my face.![]()
Yes, I told them I want the account closed on September 1st. When I log in to my account on their website it even pops up a message that I am scheduled to be disconnected, lists a number to call if I want to reactivate service.Did you actually set up a date for your account to be disconnected?

Your post has inspired me to try once more.
Not that I would ever ever do this, but I understand you can rig a Fire Stick. Or so they say. Someone very shady told me. Not that I ever tried that, of course. Asking for a friend about what streams seem to work for those illegal thing people that do that.
I completely understand your reasoning for trying this.
You need the direct number to their real retention groupThe yearly DirecTV dance...well played OP. I was dreading the call but sucked it up last night. I have not tried this. I am asking for a friend that is thinking about his friend that actually did. He is not a very nice person. What my friend wants to know for his friend is are there certain streams that work best. Like I said, not a good person.

I got every channel plus HBO plus Sunday Ticket, plus $200 Visa card, plus pay off last year's Sunday Ticket, plus $40 off a month, and a one year contract.
But I do buy PPV from time to time if it's a good fight (Rousey; this upcoming May/Conor fight; GGG)
Are you close to the end of your contract?I was just told that there isn't a customer retention department anymore. I talked to 3 different peeps and got the same answer from all 3. That's the method I used to use and it worked flawlessly.
Reddit streams are the best, Alex. For film and television there's a whole host of flawless sites. But I'm assuming you're asking about sports?I have not tried this.
