Just switching things up a little, I'm sure this won't be particularly popular because Smith isn't the guy at #9.
So we go ahead and trade down with the Lions who want Amukamara so bad and get their 13th pick along with their 75th pick.
13 Cameron Jordan // DE // California
Hey, remember this guy?? For a while, he was the FOTM (Flavor of the Moment) around here but he's been long forgotten. He's the pick because if there's one thing Rex loves, it's the idea of "Multiples" or players that can play multiple positions. At Jordan's pro day, he was asked to drop into coverage, and that's not because someone wants to see if can play safety. Jordan can line up at DE and shift to OLB under certain looks, giving Ryan more ways to confuse a defense.
40 Aaron Williams // CB // Texas
The 2nd guy that fits into the idea of Multiples for the defense. Williams is a prime pick for a FS conversion, as Ryan likes a FS that can patrol the center of the field, read routes and make decisions on the fly. If we acquire Huff, then Williams has the ability to remain at CB and take over one of those starting spots full time in the future.
71 Kenrick Ellis // DT // Hampton
The final piece to Ryan's defense, Ellis is athletic enough to play DE in a 3rd or slide in and man the NT position. I would love to have seen his private workout for the Cowboys, just to see the type of drills they put him through. Not sure if anyone else believes, like me, that he can in fact play DE in a 3-4.
75 Jason Pinkston // OG/OT // Pittsburgh
I could take either Pinkston or Rackley here and be fine with either, I give Pinkston the nod in my mock because I think he could remain at RT and is possibly a better pass protector right now than Rackley is, and faced better competition.
110 Marcus Gilbert // OT // Florida
I think you can find a starting RT later in this draft that is capable of starting right away. Gilbert has experience at RT and projects there in the NFL although he did play some guard in college.
143 Shiloh Keo // S // Idaho
Keo is one of those guys I've been rooting for but thought he would perform terribly at the combine. After he ran a 4.7 at the combine, I groaned because I thought that was it for him... then he got to the agility drills. I think he shocked a lot of people there showing great hips, great footwork and admirable foot speed. I'd love to have Keo on this team.
176 Henry Hynoski // FB // Pittsburgh
Our pass protection last year was terrible, and even so, our run blocking was worse. Hynoski may not be able to help much with the former, but he has a few things to say about the latter.
220 Alex Wujciak // LB // Maryland
Career MLB that was tailor made for the position. Wujciak is a warrior and willing to do a lot of the dirty work that goes unheralded in a linebacking core. The perfect complement to play-making Sean Lee.
252 David Mims // OT // Virginia Union
Thanks to TheFinisher for putting this guy on my radar. Last year I had my heart set on Ramon Harewood as a late round OT project, but the Ravens snagged him a few picks before ours came up (we took Jamar Wall instead, so that worked out well), Mims is a mammoth of a man at 6'8" 350, but the reports on him seem to be favorable on his ability to play RT in the NFL.
Comments welcome, of course.
