Just switching things up a little, I'm sure this won't be particularly popular because Smith isn't the guy at #9. :D

So we go ahead and trade down with the Lions who want Amukamara so bad and get their 13th pick along with their 75th pick.

13 Cameron Jordan // DE // California
Hey, remember this guy?? For a while, he was the FOTM (Flavor of the Moment) around here but he's been long forgotten. He's the pick because if there's one thing Rex loves, it's the idea of "Multiples" or players that can play multiple positions. At Jordan's pro day, he was asked to drop into coverage, and that's not because someone wants to see if can play safety. Jordan can line up at DE and shift to OLB under certain looks, giving Ryan more ways to confuse a defense.

40 Aaron Williams // CB // Texas
The 2nd guy that fits into the idea of Multiples for the defense. Williams is a prime pick for a FS conversion, as Ryan likes a FS that can patrol the center of the field, read routes and make decisions on the fly. If we acquire Huff, then Williams has the ability to remain at CB and take over one of those starting spots full time in the future.

71 Kenrick Ellis // DT // Hampton
The final piece to Ryan's defense, Ellis is athletic enough to play DE in a 3rd or slide in and man the NT position. I would love to have seen his private workout for the Cowboys, just to see the type of drills they put him through. Not sure if anyone else believes, like me, that he can in fact play DE in a 3-4.

75 Jason Pinkston // OG/OT // Pittsburgh
I could take either Pinkston or Rackley here and be fine with either, I give Pinkston the nod in my mock because I think he could remain at RT and is possibly a better pass protector right now than Rackley is, and faced better competition.

110 Marcus Gilbert // OT // Florida
I think you can find a starting RT later in this draft that is capable of starting right away. Gilbert has experience at RT and projects there in the NFL although he did play some guard in college.

143 Shiloh Keo // S // Idaho
Keo is one of those guys I've been rooting for but thought he would perform terribly at the combine. After he ran a 4.7 at the combine, I groaned because I thought that was it for him... then he got to the agility drills. I think he shocked a lot of people there showing great hips, great footwork and admirable foot speed. I'd love to have Keo on this team.

176 Henry Hynoski // FB // Pittsburgh
Our pass protection last year was terrible, and even so, our run blocking was worse. Hynoski may not be able to help much with the former, but he has a few things to say about the latter.

220 Alex Wujciak // LB // Maryland
Career MLB that was tailor made for the position. Wujciak is a warrior and willing to do a lot of the dirty work that goes unheralded in a linebacking core. The perfect complement to play-making Sean Lee.

252 David Mims // OT // Virginia Union
Thanks to TheFinisher for putting this guy on my radar. Last year I had my heart set on Ramon Harewood as a late round OT project, but the Ravens snagged him a few picks before ours came up (we took Jamar Wall instead, so that worked out well), Mims is a mammoth of a man at 6'8" 350, but the reports on him seem to be favorable on his ability to play RT in the NFL.

Comments welcome, of course.

You could trade down 4-12+ more slots and still get Jordan, imo.
I do like him though and the draft is real solid.

those top 3 picks really should shore up our defense for the most part; so I can't say I dislike anything there. The only thing I'm worried about is trusting a rookie 2nd day pick protecting our franchise QB's right side. If it works out, that would do us wonders; but I don't know man...I'm not so sure I can put all my faith in a low round pick to at that position (see Rob Petitti). I know it worked out with Free but we can't wish for that luck again.

Now if we sign a FA RT then that is a whole nother story.

You may be right but for me it was about finding a partner. I also think the Pats would be perfect happy to take either he or Watt at #17 and I think Jordan is more versatile than Watt.

It's always tough to do mocks with trades since just a straight up mock already has a ton of moving pieces.

Mims and Gilbert will both go way ahead of where you have them

I don't care for Keo

Overall not bad.

Yup, and Aaron Williams could be taken in the 1st, Kenrick Ellis in the 2nd and Pinkston in the third.

It's a mock draft, man.

As far as Keo, it's easy to not care for him, that's for sure. He doesn't leap off the screen athletically and he may never be a starter, but he's a guy that will bust his butt on special teams, a vocal leader and can spot-start if the starter goes down.

Not bad for a 5th round selection, if you ask me.

It's a nice mock anyway.

As for the Pats, I tend to think they like to trade down into the 2nd round more than up in the 1st. I could see them dropping down and loading up on late 1st to mid 2nd rounders, plus maybe a 1st rounder for next year.

All good picks at those positions in the draft; however, I think the Cowboys have backed themselves into a corner at OT. They really need to either draft OT with the 1st pick or trade up from #40 into the bottom of the 1st round for an OT.

Wujciak and Mims would be excellent late picks.

Also, even though I like Gilbert, I think the more likely option at that spot would be James Carpenter

I'd take him, but I think he might go earlier.

For a defense-heavy draft you did a nice job of addressing the OL with the mid round picks, I could see either of them emerging as a starter at RT for us. I'd rather have Watt + Rackley over Jordan + Pinkston but that's just personal preference. Like the Wujciak pick, he's been been under the radar and is a steal at that point. And to top it off you even added Mims in the 7th... winning!

I thought we were going to trade down to 10 and take Kenrick Ellis. :D

I think Jordan is a good possibility that everyone has forgotten about, too. In years past, it seems like the first wave of people we hear mentioned get forgotten in the second/third/fourth mocks, but then it comes back around to them at the end. Wouldn't be surprised if this year were the same way.

FWIW, I finally got around to watching some of Jordan's clips and I like him more than Watt. Watt doesn't seem to play to his combine numbers while Jordan does (or above them).
