I'm ready for the draft. But in the meantime.
I've listed two guys at each slot that I'd like, I basically gave up on my pet cats for this one, as the Cowboys have an uncanny knack for avoiding them come draft day, even when available, for better or worse. I'm still waiting for my direct line to the Cowboy's War Room to be installed.
1. Sean Weatherspoon (ILB), Golden Tate (WR)
Sean Weatherspoon is going to be a star in this league. He's got great feet and is a self motivator. A team leader who backs up his big talk with big play. He's excellent in coverage and has hands for the pick. He could replace Brooking before the guy retires if we'd let him, but if not, he'd be a great nickle back in the meantime. Feed Bobby to the fishes.
Golden Tate is explosive and was very productive. Fights for the ball with the mentality that it's his as soon as it goes in the air and already has developed route running skills.
2. Morgan Burnett (FS), Dexter McCluster (WR/RB/ST)
Burnett is a top notch athlete that was also productive. Has all the tools to excel in this league including better than average cover skills. Answered questions about his speed, could go earlier than many think.
Forget McCluster's 40 time, the kid is lightning in a bottle. If some teams are willing to forget the kid cause he didn't run as fast as they expected, I'd gladly take him off their hands. Instant special teams impact and a possible terror all over the field.
3. Mike Johnson (OG), Mitch Petrus (OG)
After missing out on Iupati and John Jerry in the first two rounds, we address guard in the 3rd. We've shown some interest in Petrus, but Mike Johnson might be a better player due to better run blocking skills. I don't like that Petrus was suspended for academics, but the Cowboys have shown interest in him, he might be athletic enough to slide out to RT if Brewster doesn't cut it.
4. Linval Joseph (DE/DT), Marshall Newhouse (OG)
Linval was reported as being 6'6" but turns out he's 6'4". Either way, he weighs roughly 330 but after putting up 225 39 times, I'm pretty sure he can backup at NT and see some reps at DE thanks to his motor. That being said, he's a guy that needs rest, so a perfect rotation guy.
Newhouse is here as insurance since we aren't spending a high pick on the line, I don't want to put all our eggs in one basket, so to speak. He's a good prospect who has been moving up a little bit, maybe not a future star but could be a valuable backup.
6. Myron Rolle (SS), Clifton Geathers (DE)
Myron Rolle dissapointed a little bit at the combine, and with his break from football, a lot of people will shy away from him but in the 6th, he's worth a gamble. Below average ball skills, but still a ball hawk in the sense that he was always around the action. I'm not sure you've heard, but he's also kind of smart or something. What a nerd.
Geathers is 6'8" and 300 lbs, so he's got great size for the 3-4 DE position, he doesn't have a ton of experience but lots of upside. If he adds some strength, he can definitely anchor. His long arms won't help his bench numbers, but they may be an asset on the field.
7. Jameson Konz (FB/H-BACK/TE), George Johnson (OLB)
Jameson Konz is my answer to the Dorin Dickerson fans, because I can't see the purpose of taking that guy in the 3rd round. Not for this team. So I have replaced their sugar with some Sweet N' Low in the form of Konz, who had a spectacular workout. At 6'3" 234 lbs, he ran a 4.46 and then an amazing 4.38 at his pro day. Posted a 46" vertical jump and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8-1/4 inches. He played linebacker early in his career, so you know he likes to hit, and he switched to FB his last year so he's actually got some college experience at the position.
George Johnson played DE at Rugers but at 6'4" 265, he's got great size and adequate speed for the 3-4 OLB position. He's pretty raw, but he ran a high 4.7 in the 40 and did 29 reps on the bench so the physical tools are there, just needs to be coached up, and we have the perfect guy for that, Wade.
Comments welcome, as usual.
