I'm ready for the draft. But in the meantime.

I've listed two guys at each slot that I'd like, I basically gave up on my pet cats for this one, as the Cowboys have an uncanny knack for avoiding them come draft day, even when available, for better or worse. I'm still waiting for my direct line to the Cowboy's War Room to be installed.

Sean+Weatherspoon.jpg

1. Sean Weatherspoon (ILB), Golden Tate (WR)

Sean Weatherspoon is going to be a star in this league. He's got great feet and is a self motivator. A team leader who backs up his big talk with big play. He's excellent in coverage and has hands for the pick. He could replace Brooking before the guy retires if we'd let him, but if not, he'd be a great nickle back in the meantime. Feed Bobby to the fishes.

Golden Tate is explosive and was very productive. Fights for the ball with the mentality that it's his as soon as it goes in the air and already has developed route running skills.

MorganBurnett.jpg

2. Morgan Burnett (FS), Dexter McCluster (WR/RB/ST)

Burnett is a top notch athlete that was also productive. Has all the tools to excel in this league including better than average cover skills. Answered questions about his speed, could go earlier than many think.

Forget McCluster's 40 time, the kid is lightning in a bottle. If some teams are willing to forget the kid cause he didn't run as fast as they expected, I'd gladly take him off their hands. Instant special teams impact and a possible terror all over the field.

mike-johnson-p1.jpg

3. Mike Johnson (OG), Mitch Petrus (OG)

After missing out on Iupati and John Jerry in the first two rounds, we address guard in the 3rd. We've shown some interest in Petrus, but Mike Johnson might be a better player due to better run blocking skills. I don't like that Petrus was suspended for academics, but the Cowboys have shown interest in him, he might be athletic enough to slide out to RT if Brewster doesn't cut it.

Linval-Joseph1.jpg

4. Linval Joseph (DE/DT), Marshall Newhouse (OG)

Linval was reported as being 6'6" but turns out he's 6'4". Either way, he weighs roughly 330 but after putting up 225 39 times, I'm pretty sure he can backup at NT and see some reps at DE thanks to his motor. That being said, he's a guy that needs rest, so a perfect rotation guy.

Newhouse is here as insurance since we aren't spending a high pick on the line, I don't want to put all our eggs in one basket, so to speak. He's a good prospect who has been moving up a little bit, maybe not a future star but could be a valuable backup.

myron_rolle.jpg

6. Myron Rolle (SS), Clifton Geathers (DE)

Myron Rolle dissapointed a little bit at the combine, and with his break from football, a lot of people will shy away from him but in the 6th, he's worth a gamble. Below average ball skills, but still a ball hawk in the sense that he was always around the action. I'm not sure you've heard, but he's also kind of smart or something. What a nerd.

Geathers is 6'8" and 300 lbs, so he's got great size for the 3-4 DE position, he doesn't have a ton of experience but lots of upside. If he adds some strength, he can definitely anchor. His long arms won't help his bench numbers, but they may be an asset on the field.

2841853632_957270aff9.jpg

7. Jameson Konz (FB/H-BACK/TE), George Johnson (OLB)

Jameson Konz is my answer to the Dorin Dickerson fans, because I can't see the purpose of taking that guy in the 3rd round. Not for this team. So I have replaced their sugar with some Sweet N' Low in the form of Konz, who had a spectacular workout. At 6'3" 234 lbs, he ran a 4.46 and then an amazing 4.38 at his pro day. Posted a 46" vertical jump and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8-1/4 inches. He played linebacker early in his career, so you know he likes to hit, and he switched to FB his last year so he's actually got some college experience at the position.

George Johnson played DE at Rugers but at 6'4" 265, he's got great size and adequate speed for the 3-4 OLB position. He's pretty raw, but he ran a high 4.7 in the 40 and did 29 reps on the bench so the physical tools are there, just needs to be coached up, and we have the perfect guy for that, Wade.

Comments welcome, as usual.

I love every round but the 1st (if McCluster is the 2nd round pick). I'd take all of it and be giddy though.

I'd be pissed if we wasted a 1st round pick on Sean Weatherspoon.

Don't see the need for Myron Rolle if we draft Morgan Burnett.

Other than that. Solid.

I don't like either one much...
Weatherspoon reminds me more of Bryan Cox than Lewis.

Burnett I like, but think there's more than 70% chance he's gone before our pick, McCluster is just riding the Harvin wave...

Finaly OL help, either is fine with me at that point.

Again love both choices.

I'm not fond of players that missed long stretches while doing something else, Geathers seems a nice project.

Like the Weatherspoon pick, agree he looks like he can be pretty good. Dont like Tate in round 1. Dont like McCluster, especially for us in round 2. Like Burnett, not as much as Earl Thomas or Nate Allen though. Like all 4 guys you have in rounds 3 and 4. Dont care for any of the guys in rounds 6 & 7, Rolle's a great kid, but IMO he'll be a special teamer at best in the NFL. if we're gonna upgrade the safety position, get somebody with some range and upside to start or play a signficant role fron the start.

I see a lot of love here for Geathers lately. Has anyone read that kid's rap sheet? Not good.

Yeah, he was only named a Rhodes Scholar, if he didn't go last year, he wouldn't be able to go again. It's not like it was a, "hey, when ever you get the chance, come over and check us out" offer. I don't think I could blame him for postponing football for ONE year while he took advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'd rather draft Myron Rolle, then the last player we had that missed a year, Pacman. At least Rolle didn't miss time because he was stupid.

Wow, who would have thought Sean Weatherspoon would be the most controversial pick. Maybe you guys are right.

Shucks, guess we'll just have to take Tate then, huh?

For the record, I would prefer about 3 or 4 guys over either Weatherspoon or Tate, but I don't wanna jinx it.

I like the draft all in all, and I could definitely live with it.

The main exception I have is with M Rolle in the 6th, esp if we draft M Burnett.

Maybe look at another position instead?

EDIT: I'd add that I would definitely be fine taking an ILB or a top ranked CB in the 1st, if that's the best player available.

Burnett is a FS, I think Myron is a SS? No?

That is true. He's probably referring to the fact that we already have Mike Hamlin at SS. Who the position coaches are really high on.

I was kinda anticipating that we lose Sensebaugh or don't sign him long term, in which case Myron ends up a backup for the time being.

I'm pretty high on Mike myself.

I never said he made a mistake going I applaude his decision and if it were my kid I'd make darntuttin sure he took that great opportunity. I just said I can't remember the last guy who was completely out of football for a year (not injury related) and came back at a high level, the only guys that come to mind are Army guys like Staubach and Hennings. Maybe Bo, can't remember if Dion took a whole year off, but I know both QB's we brought stunk, Pacman looked average at best, not to mention the WR from USC and Clarett.

Petrus' academic issues had nothing to do with grades. From what I understand, he got some bad advice when switches majors and did not take courses needed to maintain academic eligibility.
