have the Cowboys selecting:

1st Round: Jonathan Cooper OG UNC
2nd Round: Kwane Short DT Purdue

Loved those 1st 2 picks (SOLID as a rock)

Not a snowballs chance in hell Short is there when the Cowboys pick in the second. He will be a late first rounder or a early second rounder.

So I thought it might be interesting to see how the draft might play out if Jerry gives into his lust for shiny objects once more and drafts Tavon Austin at 18. For the sake of prosperity, let's say the obvious guys are off the board (Warmack, Cooper, Vacarro, Richardson, etc) and that Austin actually isn't so awful a decision.

Round 1: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
The Given in this scenario. I think it would be pretty silly to spend a 1st rounder on another WR, especially while Miles Austin is still on the team and we look to have already found our slot WR in Harris, but there's no denying Tavon will be a dangerous weapon for whatever team he ends up on.

Round 2: Barrett Jones, C/OG/RT, Alabama
I've loved Jones ever since he shoved AJ McCarron, who was clearly having a seizure of some kind and needed to be brought back to reality. Jones' versatility is very intriguing as well, of coure.

Round 3 (Trade Up): Shamarko Thomas, SS, Syracuse
This is the sort of thing you end up having to do when you go luxury in the first. A safety is a need after we shook Sensy loose and Thomas has range and plays with a chip. Pretty much the ideal Tampa safety and he'd be going earlier in the draft if he were a couple of inches taller.

Round 4: Traded

Round 5: David Bass, DE, Missouri Western State
Something very few are talking about is our edge rushing depth, which is virtually nonexistent. Neither Crawford nor Wilbur showed anything in their rookie years to suggest you can count on either to step in and rush the passer if Ware and/or Spencer miss time.

Round 6: Zac Stacy, RB, Vanderbilt
I've always had a fondness for shorter running backs but there's plenty to like about Stacy's game. He's compact, plays with power and balance and is a heck of an athlete.

Like I said, I really don't think WR is a need. Romo has been surrounded with some pretty excellent receiving talent his entire career - probably more talent than 85% of the starting QB's around the league, I don't really see the point of bringing in another guy with such a high pick.

That being said, even with the 1st round being spent on something shiny, I think if we were able to come out of it with some of our other needs satisfied, it'd still be a win.

Always interested to hear what you guys think, of course.

Why would we take a wr and still paying 2 of our top ones big money? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If a stud Def line guy is right there at !8 ok,but we can't keep pushing our ol problems on the backburner. Even with Tony 's restructure and Spencer's longterm, we don't have lots of fa money. We have to address it withthe draft. I need 2 lineman in 1st 3 rounds to be comfortable about next year. Whatever the combination is ,i need 2!!!!!!

I like the enthusiasm, but you may be missing the point of this mock... unless you just needed to vent, in which case - please proceed. :laugh2:

As for Guards I prefer Cooper, Warmack, Pugh, Alvin Bailey, Brian Winters.

As for Centers I prefer Schwenke and Travis Frederick.

I actually like Schwenke a lot. I also like Kahled Holmes and he may be available later. Frederick I was high on but have cooled a little on him, which is not that say I don't still like the guy.

I think all things being equal, this is a very good year to restock the oline. I'm just not sure the Cowboys will be willing to view things that way.

No big deal ount.
It's just with us only having 6 picks and having so many needs, I had a real hard time giving up two of our top 4 picks for that player. It seemed really expensive, that's all.

It's just a mock and the more mocks around the better as far as I'm concerned. I realize we're just stayng entertained an testng different scenarios at the same time.

You're not a fan of his and I can respect that, just trying a few things out. Thanks for the comments.
