Sign a guy like Koppen for 1 to 2 yrs, and simultaneously draft a Center in April in Day 2 or 3 to groom behind him. (or groom Arkin/Nagy if they believe that he can eventually be the guy)

I'm not against grooming a player currently on the roster, I just don't believe that you can pencil anyone from the roster as a starter after what we saw last year.

Get the veterans now, and groom for the future. i.e. later in the season, next year, and onward.

That goes for CB, Safety, ILB, DE, NT, G, C

David Arkin has said to have been in an offensive lineman camp for two weeks working exclusively at the center position. If true, and at the moment I don't doubt it, then I would think Callahan is grooming him as the new center.

I don't expect Costa to be the center next year for Dallas but quite possibly for San Diego.

Hardwick is talking about retirement. That's nuts for a guy going into FA. I think about what happened to NO last year with Kreutz and worry that this might end up a similar situation.

Koppen is very good - he'll be almost 33 when the season starts, but interior OL can generally play deep into their 30s.

I think Wells is a guy who is going to end up on the market a bit longer than he wants to be as he is talking about a huge 7 mill a year deal or something like that.

The kid from Oakland gets some mentions here but I think we are more likely to get a vet to stabilize and lead the line as we are likely going to be very young at every other position

Yeah. I should have made that qualification. Konz is an obvious exception there if he's available after the first round.

Exactly. Especially if we splurge elsewhere, there are upgrades available at OC at what would still be value contracts for us.

The more I look at this the more I think he's a major target. Tons of big game experience, played in a winning environment ... the positives go on and on

Don't worry - You'll see Kyle Kossier play C before you see Costa starting there again, and in no way do I believe Kossier will be the backup C.

And I do think thry'll keep Kossier over Gurode if they have to pick one of them, because Kossier can back-up both G abd C positions.

I can see us signing a free agent C, drafting one in the later rouns to serve as the backup and develop, and keeping Kossier to be the #3. But that won't be Kossier's only value, because I think he'll be the starter at one of the G spots.

I think you sell Costa a little short. He was bad last year. But the vast majority of first year starters suck. Costa may not be a solid starter but he's going to be in the mix competing for an OL spot
