I am taking a contrarian viewpoint on a couple of posts suggesting that the Cowboys have a lot of players on both the offense and defense that suck. I disagree. With the noted exceptions pointed out - such as the loss of some key contributors during the off season, the core of this team still remains that managed to win 12 games over the past three seasons. Could we use a few more play makers on both sides of the ball - absolutely. And certainly losing starters on defense hasn't helped that side of the field. We do have good players but at the moment they are unmotivated and why wouldn't they be. These players have eyes and ears and can see and hear the situations on other teams. They see situations like Detroit with Dan Campbell, a coach that players respond to because he was a player himself and he understands the challenges of a locker room. So too with Demeco Ryans in Houston. Two tough coaches, both of whom have surrounded themselves with young, innovative OCs and DCs. Who do we have - Wade Phillips 2.0 and assistants like Schottenheimer and Solaris. Whoopee! I think the players are giving some effort, but they have mentally checked out. They have dinosaurs as coaches and two clowns who don't make any effort to improve the roster. Meanwhile, Dan Quinn has the Commanders at 7-2 and Kellen Moore has helped the Eagles to a 6-2 record. But don't worry, with Jerry Jones' rousing, emotional speech to the players following their loss to the Falcons, I'm positive that the sinking ship is now heading in the right direction.
You make some good points. But how can any HC or coordinator come in here and change things when the real problem is at the top? Our owner won’t let a HC have control of the locker room.

We could bring in Andy Reid or Bill Belechick or the ghost of Don Shula and it’s not going to get better until this owner stops sticking his face into every aspect of this team’s culture. It’s a complete cultural disaster.

Six years ago in the 2018 season, after 8 games the Cowboys were 3-5. Jerry and Giggles had determined that 2018 off-season that having a decent WR was overrated. They had just released Dez Bryant and somehow believed we would be fine with a collection of mediocre receivers. They were of course wrong.

Jerry famously made the trade for Amari Cooper, giving up a #1 pick as the high price tag. The Cowboys then won 7 of their last 8 games to win the NFC East that year and even won a wild card round game vs Sea before being spanked by the rams in the divisional round. (When the rams ran for 270 yards! Yeah imagine that - not being able to stop the run)

But the 2024 season is different. Our GM is not only arrogant and unprepared, worse, he and his entitled son are both incompetent when it comes to understanding how to put an NFL roster together that wins playoff games. That’s not even disputable. They literally appear to not understand how the salary cap works.

And doubly worse, they know this year is tanked. It became a kamikaze mission back in the spring when this FO decided losing 8 major contributors at key positions could be replaced by untested rookies and dumpster dive FAs. And they decided “who needs a running game?“ The die was cast months ago, not yesterday in Atlanta.

This 2024 season ship has sailed. There will not be any cavalry riding to the rescue. That 2018 team had some holes but not like this 2024 team. This year’s team is quite simply bad. Yes Dak has played poorly, we have no running game threat, our rookies and young players have mostly been below average, and those dumpster dive FA cast-offs have been what 31 other teams thought they were. Not to mention a coaching staff who has been tuned out by the players.

I know a pig when I see one. No amount of lip stick is going to make this thing look better.
Did not see the game yesterday.
Have missed several.
Why bother?
As long as the GM does not change
We have no hope.

I’m already prepared for the full court press sales job we will hear from Jerry for next year. New HC (with no authority), the continuation of this cancerous culture, and as usual more sizzle than steak.
More like he will serve the fan base rump roast and tell everyone it's wagyu beef.

As an aside, I want to make sure that revisionist history doesn't occur here after this season ends.

The offense sucked before Dak and Ceedee got injured and the defense sucked before Parsons and Dlaw got injured.

The starting players on both sides of the ball suck
This.
And to add then there's 4 more guaranteed years of the same QB regardless of new coach or new surrounding pieces.

The next 4 years are gonna test even the strongest die hards fan loyalty.
Glad I've got the 70s and 90s memories to lean on.

What a cluster**** this team has become.

If this lunatic trades any picks for anything someone needs to put him in a hospital. I have to think he was just emotional post game yesterday and Stephen and company will bring him back down to earth. Also, it’s likely that Dak has to miss a game or two so no point in making any trades.
I forgot who reportedly asked JJ about his comments after the game and if the FO was looking to do like an ACoop trade again and JJ downplayed his comments and the possibility of making any type of significant trade. Hopefully that's true and someone provides JJ some clear insight that the team become more sellers than buyers unless it makes sense long term. Either way, had his salesman cap on as usual vs anything legitimate

Seems like JJ also keeps leaning on those 90s memories and forgets all the details of how that success came about.

No salvation for the dead. You have to accept the Cowboy way, the Cowboy truth and the Cowboy life will it is day. But these are the Arlington Jonesboys they show up DOA almost every year.

At least you got three 12-5 seasons in a row. Now Jerry Dumbo GM Jones will give you three 5-11 seasons in a row. He has done it before.

Jerry still thinks the triplets were everything.
They were.... in that era. Game has changed along w/the salary cap so the mindset of the triplets might apply or be desirable, but not the overall trying to implement the same game plan to expect the same outcome. It's so sad that he's still living in the past and forgetting that he's the reason the success ended so don't repeat that part

I certainly agree 100% with your point Bob regarding the real problems in this organization. I was merely trying to raise a counter argument to the perspective that we don't have good players.

I strongly dislike when they try to sell the team magically getting better because a couple guys are coming back. This team sucks, so develop youngins and continue to be garbage.
