The top guys available, according to Brugler's draft guide would be (in order):

DE/OLB Jalon Walker
DE Shemar Stewart
DE Mike Green
TE Colston Loveland
WR Tetairoa McMillan

Will Johnson would be extremely tempting.

I would confidently go with Kelvin Banks Jr. Put him at RG year one, then move him to LT and Guyton to RT next year. Either cut or trade Steele the following year.

if it's defense,im hopin for georgia de mykel williams...will johnson,cb-michigan...or a&m de shemar stewart.

if it's offense...i'm hopin texas wr matthew golden...or ohio st ot josh simmons...or texas ot kelvin banks.

if its offense...wr matthew golden.
if defense...de mykel williams.

my card would read...georgia de mykel williams.

This falls in line with two things we have been talking about all off season. It makes us more physical and it helps the run game. It also helps protect our $60M man.

I believe they’d draft Jalon Walker with this board.

Of these guys I would take Tet.

Shemar Stewart scares me. His athletic scores are off the charts but his production in college was really sub par. It makes me wonder if he is Rod Hill 2.0.

Walker looks the part in college but what is his position?

Green is small school and overhyped. Loveland is a TE. This would be a perfect trade down scenario but given what is left who would want to trade up?

If there is no trade available then why not just take the player you love even if you are taking him 10 picks early? Why not a guy like Grant? or the CB from Michigan?

Draft guys in Dallas said don’t expect Simmons. They are not high on him

This is sort of why I lean toward Golden, whom Brugler has No. 15. I think particularly after you get past the players in the OP, you have a bunch of players with some questions about them. I prefer the smaller receiver who can get open with route running and speed over the bigger player who wins with size.

With Stewart, you have to hope he lives up to his measurables even though he didn't in college.

With Walker, you may end up with a second Parsons-like player, which is great for your pass rush but neither needs to be an early-down end.

Same with Green, but he has length issues to overcome, which doesn't always happen.

As you said, Loveland is a tight end, so do we really want to invest a first-rounder into that position when we have Ferguson and our second-rounder?

If any of those are the pick, I'd hope for the best, but if we were unable to trade down, I'd either take McMillan or Golden. Another player I would absolutely love there is Derrick Harmon, but I can't see us drafting a DT in the first.

It’s amazing how much people get hung up on “Don’t take X player at 12 because he’s rated a few spots lower”

Nobody cares about that come week 1

This isn’t a shot at you. Just the general consensus

Yeah, I just don't see a clear delineation between players from 12 to 20 and even some probably considered better-ranked than that. The only four I think are absolutes are Hunter, Carter, Graham and Jeanty. There are a few others I'd probably consider safe prospects, but not many I'd consider certain star prospects.

If we wanted to take Golden over Johnson, Barron, Loveland, McMillan, Pearce, Campbell, etc., I could see the reasoning for that. Frankly, my pick would be Harmon, but I just can't see this team doing that.

Forfeit the pick so we don't mess up some young man's career.
All kidding aside, I'm taking Walker.

I think the point is, there is nothing wrong with taking a player at 12 who is rated at 20 because that's the guy you like for your team and you know he won't be there in the next round of the draft.

I have no issue reaching if all your other favorite players are taken. What would be an issue is leaving a better player on the board to take someone rated lower.
