Football season is my favorite time of year.

I have 3 football teams that I follow, .. my local High School where I played many moons ago, the West Virginia Mountaineers, .. and our beloved Dallas Cowboys!

I still do the PA announcing(15 yrs and running) for my local High School football games.

We have made the playoffs a state record 14 straight seasons.
We have gone 39 consecutive seasons without a losing record, another state record.
6 State Championships over the years.
In other words, our program is very successful and fun to be a part of.

The Mountaineers have played in 4 straight Jan. 1st Bowl Games, and have won the Big East 3 out of 4 yrs.
We have two guys getting national recognition and Heisman consideration.
We are #3 or #4 in the polls.
In other words, this is a great time to be a Mountaineer football fan!

Having said all of that, .. there is nothing, and I mean nothing that can compare to the anticipation, the rush and the excitement of sitting down to watch a Dallas Cowboys football game, as I will Sunday night.

NOTHING!!

My world stops for 3 hours when the Cowboys are on. My wife and my 2 sons and I hang on every play!

I can hardly wait !!

I am with you there brother. Football is on, and life is worth living again!

Good for you to continue to get to be a part of your high school football team in any capacity.

I watched a bit of WV football last year and I was pretty impressed, they were flying around the ball.

I pretty much stick to my local teams as well, AHS Eagles, UT Longhorns, and the COWBOYS...

I heard WV is some pretty nice country, I'm visiting my bro in Pennsylvania next week, I'm best man in his wedding. I'll be fairly close to the area...

Quick trivia for you and for my knowledge base... Any former Cowboys from WVU besides Chuck Howley??

They don't have to leave me alone, as long as they agree with my every thought and whim during the game. If the Skins win, life goes on. If the Skins lose, stay the hell away from me for the next couple of hours...

Great post.

I played football for my high school alma mater, but back in the stone age, winning seasons were very few and far between. They have racked up nine straight postseason appearances--which included four playoff quarterfinal appearances prior to two state championships.

The other guys I root for are LSU. Since 2001, those Bengal Tigers have been to five of six New Years Day or later bowls, winning three of them--with a BCS trophy to show for the '03 season. :toast: And they're currently sitting behind USC at #2 in the polls.

I don't know how we ever survive the NFL offseason. It's the Cowboys or bust. If I had to pay full price for the NFL Sunday Ticket to catch only one Dallas game, I would do it willingly. Ironically, with the way the NFL is spreading games onto its NFL Network channel, etc., that day may come sooner than expected. :)

A few over the years, but nobody of note that I can think of off the top of my head.

To be honest, there aren't that many ex-WVU players in the NFL, .. maybe 10 or 12.

I hope this time next year that I can answer your question with, ... "Why yes, 1, Steve Slaton."

I have three teams also. Everman High School Bulldogs (my high school) who were Texas State 3-A division 1 champs in 2001 and 2002. TCU (though I watch Texas as my second team) and of course the Dallas Cowboys which of all the teams and sports I love, nothing compares.

Speaking of Pennsylvania, they play some pretty good football in the high schools around here, too.

Where's the wedding?
