These are the situations where we have traditionally fallen apart under Garrett

lol, you know what makes me laugh about these posts. This is the secret sauce for getting your likes count up. Post anything that disses Garrett and the same guys hit the like button every time. I haven't counted, but I'm guessing 7 or 8 every time. And the more we win, the more desperate they become for traction, so the likes become even more guaranteed.

????? Jerry has lessened Garrett's responsibilities , has he not?? He even admitted Garrett was a trainee and has since taken away all his offense responsibilities. Garrett is now just the guy who claps on the sideline. Posting the truth may get likes but it is only because it is the truth. I personally could not care less about how many "likes" I get and for the record, there are probably way more Cowboy homers who never want to see anything negative posted about the team that go around adding to other "homers" like counts. I am a realist and call things like I see them.

And that is close to a #4.. listen on a serious note, as soon as you say things like he just stands there and claps you reveal you know nothing about how an NFL team operates or what Garrett actually does. I have more patience with thinking he does a poor job than someone who imagines he doesn't work hard.

You can live in fantasy-ville all you want. Garrett running the offense = an 8 - 8 record proven three times. Jerry neutered him and we have turned things around. Yes he is still the head coach and I know what a head coach does but it doesn't lessen the fact that Jerry had to take a lot of responsibility away from him to right the ship. Jerry even admitted he was a trainee last year. You know you are bad when Jerry Jones calls you out as a trainee but Jerry feels safe with Garrett because he doesn't try to outshine Jerry and his fragile ego so we are stuck with him. Less Garrett = more success.

Whatever makes it tolerable for you friend, but you're wrong. And most importantly, Garrett's team knows you're wrong. And that is why he will be the head coach of your favorite football team for a long time. Btw, when will you learn that Jerry says whatever he thinks he needs to say to buy some more time from his fan base? Garrett doesn't care what Jerry says, Garrett cares about building and running his program. And its working.

Is that an admission that Jerry had to buy more time from the fans that were losing patience with his idiot trainee? The guy has cost us at least two games a season with beyond stupid game / clock management. The more power Jerry strips from him the better we become. Coincidence???? I think not! Look, you are another Garrett fan boy. I understand and it is okay with me. I really hope we do well with the guy. We all want this team to succeed. I just can't give him much credit when it took lessening his role to turn things around. I believe he is only here so Jerry can take all the credit for any success we have. Jerry couldn't stand when Jimmy Johnson got the credit for our 90's success and only hired another real head coach in Tuna to get his stadium. Garrett is just another puppet in Jerry's world who is not good enough to take any credit away from Jerry for any success the team has. We are stuck with this dysfunctional situation and our only hope is Jerry hires the right coordinators to right the ship which it is looking like he did just that this season.

Its an acknowledgement that Jerry has a sense for some reactionary, non-critical (simplistic), hysterical fans. :)

Peace my friend!!! Lets just call it a day and both hope our success continues. If we keep winning I'll be happy and become more tolerant of Garrett,

its very different and heres the proof

less shotgun more play action than ever before. already 4 games in they have play actioned off run as much as they did entire 2012.. this is because the run is such a threat.

of course I cant explain it very well and Bob already has so well so just read his words.

I just leave this last bit here

DRIVE STARTERS - The 1st play of each drive can often reveal the intent of a coach to establish his game plan. How committed is he to the run or pass when the team comes off the sideline? We track it each week here -

Wk 1 - San Francisco: 5 Run/5 Pass - 50% Run
Wk 2 - At Tennessee: 8 Run/3 Pass - 72% Run
Wk 3 - At St. Louis: 7 Run/2 Pass - 77% Run
Wk 4 - New Orleans: 9 Run/2 Pass - 81% Run
2014 Total: 32 Drives - 29 Run/12 Pass - 70% Run

Wow. Look at these numbers compared to the last 3 years!

2013 Total: 176 Drives - 84 Run/92 Pass - 47% Run
2012 Total: 173 Drives - 76 Run/97 Pass - 44% Run
2011 Total: 181 Drives - 79 Run/102 Pass - 44% Run

It's definitely different now. We're having success on the ground. Most of us have been calling for it, but we didn't have the pieces up front.

For four seasons now I have been hard core about getting O-linemen in the first rounds of the drafts. It surprised me when members of these forums would salivate at spending draft picks on ballers. It was Romo's injuries and Hudini acts in the backfield that should have made it perfectly clear what we needing in the draft. My primary reasoning was to keep Romo on his feet and out of rehab. Of course the running game would follow suit. However, I never imagined Murray would lead the league in yardage at this stage. I honestly believed because of our pass happy philosophy and Murray's tendencies toward injury, it would never amount to tremendous success on the ground.

I sure hope the franchise has learned it's lesson with regard to the trenches, and come draft time, they go strong on the D-Linemen. I'm dead certain we get similar results on the opposite side of the ball.

There are differences from the past: The Cowboys have loaded up on really good offensive linemen, Garrett finally has an OC of his choice, and we have a Marine DC.

As long as JG's only responsibility on game day is making sure there is enough free coffee and donuts for the team, I think we'll be fine.

It's different because of how the offense is being managed.

It's different because up until recently Romo's physical condition has forced him to lean on Murray. Sunday we saw him start off slinging the ball with success and then gradually he leaned on the run. Depending on he feels I bet we see more passes again early on against Houston...

This team is entirely different than when Garrett took over. So I don't think there's going to be a letdown.

BTW, everyone here is praising the offense, our oline, Murray and Linehan. I just want to say also that defense was a very big surprise as well. Last years defense could not make a play on a pass or stop anyone from completely 3rd downs. In this game Brees had a heck of a time in getting the ball out because of the pressure and when he completed it, the defense was there to either knock the ball away or punish the player for catching it. I think our defense still has some question marks. But its going to get even better and I can't wait to see it running on all cylinders.

This does feel like a crossroad of some sort. Which way will they go? All indications are the Cowboys are headed in the right direction. Every game will be a big game until we win it; then everyone will downplay the opponent. Even if we beat Seattle, people will find faults with the Seahawks as opposed to give the Cowboys credit for a big win. That's just how it goes with the Cowboys. I just hope we keep winning so that the naysayers and nonbelievers look dumber and dumber.

The way fans here, and critics around the league are viewing this team feels very familiar. We've seen and heard this song and dance before. And I'm not going to lie - I'm feeling optimistic. This offensive line is looking stout and the offense is running like a well-oiled machine.

But let's look at history for a second.

2011:
We lost a close one to the Jets to open the season, a game we should have won, and then the classic win over the Niners and a close one over the Commanders. There was a lot of positive energy around here, until Romo and Garrett went out the next week and monumentally choked away the Lions win. They got back on track for that 4-game win streak and there was a sense around here that the team "finally got it", but the wheels fell off when Bailey was famously "iced" by Garrett in the loss to Arizona and we ended the season laying our backs, staring up at the lights.

2012:
Come on, when we opened the season by smacking around the Giants in NY, who around here didn't have us pegged as a SuperBowl favorite? Of course, we came back down to earth after that, but that 3-game win streak late in the season surely had people buzzing that once again, the team had finally figured it all out and found its way. Once again, we couldn't finish and lost the last two to go 8-8.

2013:
We were feeling good after that Broncos shootout. Yeah, it was a tough loss, but damn did the offense look good or what? Then we win the next two, including a dominant win over the much-hyped Chip Kelly-led Eagles. Then, of course, we go into Detroit and lose a game that really had NO business losing, and from there it was back to the usual Jekyll and Hide Cowboys that we're used to.

So now we sit at 3-1, on an emotional high after the Saints win. Traditionally, this is where we fall apart. This is where Garrett or Romo usually take a winnable game and throw it away in mind-boggling fashion.

What do you guys think? Is this team different?

Interesting that you make no mention at all of the crippling injuries to the defense the last two years. Especially since they had such a direct impact on both seasons.

Your assessment seems tainted with your personal feelings about Romo and coaching. Why don't you be more specific about winnable games that Romo has thrown away? I can think of many he's won on game winning drives, but only a couple he "threw away" by his fault alone.

The last few years, the Cowboys have done exactly what .500 teams do. They've won a couple games or stayed surprisingly close in games that they weren't supposed to win. They've lost a couple games or been taken to the wire in games they should have won. Mostly, they've beaten poor teams and lost to good teams. They haven't put together streaks because, well, they were a .500 team.

After every good win or 2- or 3-game streak, people here always start talking about how "this time is different" and "they're building momentum". And after every bad stretch, "they choked" or "they have no heart". When the truth is that they were simply a .500 team, doing what .500 teams do. And it's got way more to do with talent level and matchups than with character or desire or intestinal fortitude or momentum (it has approximately nothing to do with those things).

I'm a fan too. I think they're better this year and can point to all sorts of reasons why. But there's a good chance I'm completely wrong, and they're middle-of-the-pack after all. Can't wait to find out.

Brother..

Move over and I'll help row your boat.

hahhahaaa...

They don't know how to handle success. The San Diego game after the Giants game is the main one that comes to mind.

That being said, Fitzgerald is terrible so I expect us to win.

Most folks said Austin Davis was terrible and he looked great against this D. Any given week in the NFL. I hope they've turned the corner.

One thing I'm seeing less of this team shooting themselves in the foot. Still happens as we saw on opening week and vs Rams but penalties seem to be down right now and while defense has struggled in some phases they have done a good job of winning 3rd down battles and getting turnovers. Offense no doubt the steady dose of running is big and in turn has opened things up in the passing game. But for this team to make it over the hump they have to learn to be mentally tough something they have not shown in pervious seasons
