These pick ups would put us in contention

I have to say after the Pickens trade and our draft I feel like some life has been given to us fans. We have a pulse again. We still have some work to do and I know Jerry is probably done but my wish list would have us getting these players.
1) DJ reader Trade or if cut would tremendously help our Defense
2) Nick Chubb 1 yr rental probably had reasoably cheap
3) Hilton or Gilmore Both Free agents that will not break bank, bring leadership and hold us over until DB room is healthy
None of these moves will cost us big financially, our depth would be strengthened and our overall team would be solid.
While Im dreaming sign Bland, Micah, Smith and Aubrey before training camp and get ahead of things.
Thats all for now. Enjoy your weekend
These moves would help some.

Maybe move the needle from 7-10 or 8-9 to 9-8 territory.

"Put us in CONTENTION" though? LMAO. man i hate this time of year in the Zaney Zoner Fantasy Kingdom

The Lions just paid Reader his 4m roster bonus and trading him would create a 5m dead cap while saving around 1m.
There’s just no logical reason for the Lions to have any desire to want to trade him and hang their hat on a rookie who had a lot of the same negatives as Mazi when they believe they’re a legitimate SB contender!

Chubb is done.
The 2 corners are progress stoppers at best!

ONLY 3 ???!!!

thats it..that not asking much LOL

They will wait until TC to make any moves. They will see what they have now on the current roster. And will know better about the injured players and their status. They may end up being fine with who they have.

Do not need any progress stoppers during TC. As any of those players will not put them over there top to be SB contenders. But then again, if they will help make the playoffs, any can happen.

They may make a few bottom of the roster churning type moves after the OTA's and mini camp.

As for those players listed, I will say Reader is the one to make a move on. Possibly, how much does he really have left. But it does not need to be done now. And why does his name come up, and not others. I only see it proposed on here to go get him. Has any media person been saying this?

Also since they are all vet players, they may very well wait until after game 1. therefore their pay is not guaranteed. And once released when other players are ready, it does not count against the cap for the entire year.
Reader name came up on one of those clickbait articles, “this is who every team should trade for”.
It was pure clickbait that didn’t take into account that McNeil is coming of ACL, the Lions had just paid Reader his 4m roster bonus and that there’s no logical reason for them to want to hang their hat on a rookie in a season they believe themselves to be legitimate SB contenders.

Assuming Jerry wanted to go that direction an expectation that might actually have a bit of realistic possibility would be Andrew Billings in Chicago. With the Jarret signing he just got pushed back to 2nd string and they’re about 6 deep at DT.

fans don't think that far ahead they think anything is possible and they don't care about the cap they don't care that the other team would be paying us to play their guy the same with all the people who think we could trade Prescott even if he rescinded his no trade cause like it would make any sense financially because it wouldn't..

I don't think Chubb is done I think he'd be worth a look he sure looks like he's training hard like he wants to make a true comeback the dude don't look like he's done he's a free agent what would it hurt we're not trading away any money in the corners maybe but we have nothing at corner too many? After I'm bland and a bunch of? Everybody's worried about can we stop the run and yet we have nobody to cover if I'm a team I'm coming out game one throwing the ball 30 times and you better hope our past rush gets there because those 2 dudes may not be the right choices but right now we need some depth until they come back those would be the best options but why not make that trade for Jalen Ramsey then?

If you can get Miami to pay some of his salary you give them one of our young corners no not the ones that we just drafted or that we want but there are some other guys on this team maybe they want a guy like I don't know Carson he's only healthy guy you give him you give them Carson they pay some of Jalen Ramsey salary and we get a veteran that can come in here and take one spot even though we need 2 spots that would fill only one need and I get rebel might be OK but he's not only a rookie he's coming off injury we don't know how he's going to adjust and how long it will take...

In my opinion at the very least something needs to be done at corner you call it progress stoppers but we need bodies.... Quality bodies so Gilmore and or Hilton or quality bodies I'm not comfortable going into the first month of a brutal schedule waiting on guys to get healthy and mentally right...

Better hope that Nick Chubb doesn't go to say Washington and turn into Derek Henry and everyone said he's washed and Jerry passed up on him look if we drafted a 3rd round running back and we had a clear starter then I'd be agree with you but we don't have that we have a bunch of guys fighting for spots and I would give Nick Chubb $3 million base salary with an ability to earn 4 more million if he meets a lot of criteria with stats and games played and what not why would you not do that?

its possible Reader could become available

its also possible a asteroid could wipe earth in the next week

McNeil's injury occurred late in the season, too. I forgot about that. But, the Lions have put resources into the DT position (premium draft picks). McNeil's backup is a 2nd round pick from same draft as McNeil (2021).

Reader is their NT and his replacement at 1 tech was just drafted in the 1st round (Williams out of Ohio St.). The writing is on the wall for Reader in Detroit. He has a year left on his deal. It is possible that Detroit tries to get something for him.

But, to your point, the Lions may hang on to him due to the need for bodies on the dline until McNeil is back. They could look to move him around the trade deadline if need be. They may not have a reason to move on from him now or before the season starts.
I had trouble seeing him being moved even if McNeill wasn't coming off injury. The Lions basically have a four-man rotation with Reader, so I don't understand why they would want to weaken that, especially when they consider themselves a Super Bowl contender. Some teams value quality depth.

Didn't even know about the bonus, even more reason why I just can't see him being moved.

-People can stop hoping for another RB. They’ve obviously chosen who they are going with into camp. No, there’s no proven ‘bell cow’ or whatever but the position will figure itself out.

-CB isn’t a real problem. Not as much as DT. I suspected all along that they would consider the position fixed once they paid Osa. Was hoping to be wrong but they rarely let me down.

-It’d be nice to being in Gilmore, but if they are going to pay around 8-10 for a decent player it should be DT beyond any doubt. It makes the one year WR rental make much more sense.

-Just need to find someone willing to move a decent DT (other than talk Jerry into believing the position matters) in a league that has more teams than good ones. That’s why you sign Poona Ford when you have the chance. That’ll be painfully obvious yet again around holiday time when that stretch of good opponents are running for 6-8 per carry at will.

Thanks for the info. I did not know that about Reader.
Hopefully this squashes the trade for Reader stuff.

I wouldn’t touch Ramsey for a myriad of reasons.
Jacksonville wouldn’t resign him. The Rams traded him and now the Dolphins are willing trade him and take a 49m dead cap hit a season after signing him to a 3 year extension that gave him 24m up front.
You really think Miami is wanting to take that dead cap hit and pay part of his salary?
And why would you want a proven malcontent on your team especially when we’re clearly not one or even 3 or 4 players away from being legitimate contenders.

We’ve already dropped the 3rd for next season for Pickens. For Miami to be willing to trade him and take the dead cap they’re not willing to take chump change draft compensation and a players who spent the majority of their rookie season IRed. For them to do so without a fan meltdown their starting point has to be a 1st and 4th or 5th with a combination of multiple 2nds and 3rds as the minimum to make it acceptable. Otherwise their GM might as well put in his walking papers and go apply for a lower management job a the local Costco!

Ramsey is 31. He’s hitting the age where the bottom begins to fall out of roughly 70% of players at the position. Ramsey has made it clear throughout his career his main concern is the money. There’s a high degree of probability that the main reason he’s looking for a trade is because he’s looking at that 3 year, 30m average contract Stingly signed and he’s wanting to cash on a new contract that ups the 24m average he was just given. Id pretty much guarantee at 31 he “ain’t” willing to play for the 10m base and 2m roster bonus on his contract the next 2 seasons. Especially when he’s smart enough to recognize his clock is rapidly ticking towards retirement!

Look I said he was a possibility if they need to do something and they feel they need to that would be one idea.. And by the way up to this point they have not been willing to pay that money indeed cap money and that's to hold up on how much money they be willing to pay and what they would accept so that's why he has not been traded up to this point...

I get your point but we may need some options at that position is the one position I don't see that there's any clarity on when or everyone gonna be back when they're gonna be healthy how they're gonna pick up this defense when they do and it's a critical position so there's something they may need to do I don't know who it is you know like I said Gilmore or Hilton those are ideas I get it...

Of all the positions on the team this is the one I think they need to address further outside the building..

Again, this team isn’t 1 or 2 or 3 players away from competing for a championship.
The way Eberflus has run his zone in the past I’m expecting most likely Bland and Elam on the outside with a combination of Thomas and Mukuama in the slot on early downs.
Passing downs, slide Bland inside and Reval as the outside. That leaves Carson and Booth as reserves, both can be protected with rolled coverage for a few weeks and even Mukuama in a pinch.

Ourlads has a guy named Storm Duck penciled in as the other starting corner across from Ramsey who “they are willing to trade”.
I don’t think our corner position is in near the dire straits as much of the fan base. And is probably in as good if not better shape than half the league.

That might be true but that doesn't mean you can't catch lightning in a bottle there are plenty of teams that we were shocked went to the Super Bowl all it takes to get on a little run I mean we saw it with Eli Manning they were a wild card team they barely scraped their way in and somehow they beat New England twice they beat Tom Brady twice they were not supposed to do that they were not ready to do that it was a total shock that the New York Giants made it into the playoffs let alone beat New England who by the way that one year New England was about to be undefeated I don't remember what it was 19 and oh or I don't remember but it doesn't matter you can't dismiss that it could be your year even if it doesn't look like it on paper...
