1. We need to buck our tendencies on defense and do a 180. We are known for "bend but don't break" but we need to become "we will break but not bend". Give Tom the deep throws only...challenge everything short and within 10 yards. Make him hold the ball and give our rush extra time to hit him... if he hits some bombs-- so be it. The physical punishment he will have to endure in order to play a full 60 mins that way will wind up in our favor.

2. Mental toughness. The only way to beat a bully is to be a bigger bully. Every single player has to want it more than the guy in front of him. Football is a contest of the will. We have to make them want to go to the showers. They are supremely confident in their team-- and they have every right to be. We have to absolutely punch them in the mouth for 60 mins and go into berserker mode when they hit back. Lick our wounds later. Even if you take some shots, pain is easier to deal with after you open a can of whoop-*&* on your opponent.

Having said the above-- I doubt very much we have the leadership on this team to accomplish it. Belichik is the master of adapting his talent and skills to the opponent. Garrett is stubborn and adopts the "this is who we are" mantra which makes us a sitting duck because of how predictable we are. I have a hard time seeing the defense playing aggressive on the short game-- because that is not their identity.

We might be one of mentally weakest teams in the NFL. Lots of talent. Bad fundamentals. Mental mistakes. Making the same mistakes repeatedly. Consistently inconsistent. These are all traits of a mentally challenged organization.

I would love nothing more than to watch my beloved Cowboys humble the almighty Pats in New England and make a statement game on Sun.... Alas-- I see us losing 27-10.

Hope I am wrong brothers...

What I believe is that we have to play smart and disciplined. No stupid penalties. No trying for YAC before securing the catch. No sloppy handling of the ball.

I agree with your suggestion on defense. We have to make them fight for every yard. Challenge every throw. Punch them first, second and last.

I do agree the Cowboys have to bring more intensity to this game, especially early. They cannot afford a slow start against the Patriots. They cannot fumble on the first play from scrimmage or throw an INT. The Patriots are going to get after Dak right fro the start. They are going to ring blitzes right up the middle at him forcing him to make quick decisions. I hope Moore is prepared to move the pocket, especially early. But if its a sloppy field it could dictate the game plan for both teams.

The Cowboys better be ready for a Patriots team that game tackles and goes for the football. They will try to knock it out of every players hands. They play the take-away game better than any team in the league.

we gotta protect the ball and cash in red-zone trips.

on defense....pressure brady and MAKE TACKLES.

Let's look at the snake oil in the eye...

Even if Dallas does get their tail ends handed to them in a paper sack, this team probably ends up by winning the NFC East. That is, even if they lose to New England.

If they lose, to this fan at least, they are merely carrying around a bag of excuses and bringing them up to match the failures.

Until they prove on the field, that they can stand up to a good team and win, then they are little more than a back door floosie...This Sunday, or just shut up Garrett.

I love that idea of challenging the short stuff. I think that's Brady's bread and butter/security blanket at this point of his career. His 6.8 yards per completion this year bears that out. I think your thought is a good one. Contest the short stuff and make him hold the ball and take deep shots. Another factor to consider is that the Patriots don;t have the receivers that have deep speed. That's what Belichick would do if the roles were reversed.

So you’re saying we have no shot?

Both lines need to bring the most physical play possible , if we dominate the trenches we should have a comfortable victory ( with some hic ups , LOL)

LVE is the best cover LB and he's out and they may need to bring Smith as the 5th rusher. That doesn't look good for covering the short stuff.

Cowboys fans or aliens abduct both Belichick and Garrett long enough to keep them away from the game...

That would remove the Pats big advantage (Belichick) and remove the Cowboys big dis-advantage (Garrett).

much simpler, I believe if we dont give away the game , we win..ie no Turnovers, no bonehead avoidable penaltys, and try and get a turnover=win...

if we start slow, get penaltys that take back 1sts downs and /or scores, and give them the TO edge=loss..

The Boys average a meager 4.0 points while giving up 6.2 points in the first quarter, meaning they're losing by two points heading into the second quarter on average.

If the they're able to flip the script and get off to a fast start, it will make everything else easier for them the rest of the game.

It’s no coincidence that when the Boys win, they tend to win big and all of their wins except one, have been by double digits. The Boys are built to play with a lead. It's up to Garrett and Moore to have an exceptional playbook on hand come game day.

Our best defensive gameplan with this defensive staff to date was last year vs NO. Sticky, nasty coverage. GREAT tackling. Disruptive pass rush.

Hope we do something similar on Sun. Won’t hold my breath though lol

I won't either. It seems that they're intent on doing just the opposite. As well as letting quarterbacks get far too comfortable in the pocket before they even THINK of bringing the blitz.

I will be happy when Marinelli goes.

I'm glad we have people who are rooting for a win. Will be a daunting task for sure.

Let hope the defense shows up and Dak, Zeke, Cooper and Gallup all have career games.

Call me crazy I don't care.

:yourock::yourock::yourock:

1. Buck tendency to run DL stunts.

2. Tackle better

3. Don't give up so many hidden yards in STs plays

yah... me too.

We have an issue with passivity in our philosophy. “Take what the defense gives you” in the mantra on offense. “Bend but don’t break” is the mantra on defense.

I am ready for an attack-oriented philosophy that looks to identify the weak points on a defense and exploit it on offense... and a defensive coordinator that flat out wants to physically punish every offense he lines up against and fills the roster with nasty, athletic players that want to compete every play.

Right now we have a DC older than yoda and a HC that wants to make sure every player gets a participation trophy.

Agreed.

We have a head coach that's often far too worried about perception over reality. What people might think of what he says rather than worrying more about what he does. What I mean by that is I'd like to see a bit more emotion and a bit less rationality from Garrett. I loved it when he got pissed and threw that flag at that ref who was being an *******. Good for you Jason! Let's see more of that, specifically where you mentioned, and dictating things to the other guy instead of letting him dictate it to you. A little more take what you want rather than take what they give you.

The same goes for the defense, and a philosophy that may have worked in 2001 but not so much today. I'm not suggesting a reckless or unsound defense like Rob Ryan, but one that attacks a bit more and causes the offense to worry about them a bit and not just the other way around.

But sadly, I don't think the mindset changes until the head coach does. This team is a reflection of him and a very paint-by-numbers, by-the-book method of doing things.
