They don't view Dak as a game manager

For years I have said the ceiling for Dak is Russell Wilson. When the Seahawks had their run....running game was good, defense was good, coaching was good. Rusell wanted to be much more...Pete Caroll would not allow it. They butted heads. Was able to trade him for a boatload of picks and Rusell Wilson got his wish. Denver will rue the day, month, year and maybe even the decade the haul they gave up for Russell Wilson.

Back to Dak....that 2nd and 2 before the half. If they viewed Dak as a game manager...they would have ran the ball. But "they" view Dak as a special QB. I don't know if the "they" is analytics, I don't know if the "they" is the Jones boys because of how much of the cap he takes up....or if they "they" is Kellen Moore because he wants to look like a genius. But the simple, easy, BEST football decision was to RUN THE FOOTBALL. But their are so many agendas these days (trying to get a new contract, trying to justify a contract, trying to look like a competent GM, trying to get a head coaching job etc..) that what is BEST for the football team gets lost. Thinking back to my Russell Wilson analogy...Pete Carroll let his guard down for 1 second...allowed agendas to factor in his decision making...and it cost him that Super Bowl against New England...and the Seahawks were NEVER the same.

Dak is a good QB. Not special, but good. He will win games and put up stats in the REGULAR season because there are enough bad teams and the Cowboys are a good team. We were the 3rd best team in the NFC all year. And that is EXACTLY how this ended. But the playoffs represent the best coaches, game plans and teams the NFL has to offer. Dak and this coaching staff are not good enough to win 4 straight games in the playoffs the way we are currently constructed. If they want to make a serious run at the Super Bowl...you better get rid of agendas, you better get rid of pet players, you better open up your checkbook, you better be more aggressive.

The Eagles made moves during the offseason that ensured they would maximize what Jalen Hurts did well and minimized what he did not do well. They made moves during the season that sent a clear message that Dallas was not going to run the football on them. In other words, they left no stone unturned. Dallas sat back and played the "we like our guys" soundtrack...hence the contract we gave Gallup who was coming of a torn ACL. Did that make us better? We got away with it during the regular season...but it showed up when your weaknesses are sure to show up...the PLAYOFFS. Somehow watching us lose last year to the 49ers the way we did.....the Jonesboys were unfazed. They did not get Dak the help he needs. The game might have been closer this year than last...but do people forget....THEY BEAT US WITH A ROOKIE 7th rounder!!!!!!!!!!!! Earth to the Jonesboys....they are better than us. And you must make moves this offseason to address that. I said it last year after the playoff loss to the 49ers. If we played them 10 straight times on a neutral field...they would win 7. For those that did not believe...they throw in a 7th round rookie just to prove how superior they are to us.

Sorry for the long rant...but in closing. Because of his contract...you are stuck with Dak for 2 more years. But you better FORGET how much he is making (I know, you told us at the press conference to announce his signing that you overpaid)...and get him the pieces he needs...because he is not good enough to elevate the talent of average players for a long postseason run

Last thing....for those who have not been paying attention...they have been saving their cap money to pay Micah, Diggs and Lamb. Let me put this out there right now. You know how Zeke left us all hot and bothered after a great start to his career...we used him and beat him up and he got his money. He became a shell of himself. And now we have all turned on him. They are doing the same thing to Lamb. He is taking massive punishment because of how he is being used. He is going to get his money and I could see the same thing happening to him. This front office has to stop this attitude that because a certain guy is being paid amount...he needs to carry the load and EARN that paycheck. No one RB, no one WR, no one defensive player can carry a team for 17 games (soon to be 18)....plus 3 or 4 games of the postseason. You have to have multiple special players on the OL, DL, secondary, WR etc...to make a run at a Super Bowl. The season is a journey and a war of attrition..the days of "triplets" are OVER. So FRONT OFFICE.....if you think throwing a bunch of money at Parsons, Diggs and Lamb will be enough....it won't.

Very good summary of the issues. I don't like Dak but I agree he could be a sufficient game manager for us to win. Unfortunately he is paid too much and given far too much credit to be effective.

We also have a very 'lazy' offence.. we often want the big chunk play.. Dak loves the glory.. instead of just grinding out the win and grinding down the opposition. That was one thing Rush did very well.. we used that running game until the D was tired.. and that is why Rush (who is a very limited QB) was able to make 3 'game winning' drives in the last quarter.. the D was tired. A bit like our D against Purdy.. at some point the D will buckle.

So on 2nd and 2.. we take the short cut.. we try for the glory shot.. instead of just running it up the gut and moving the chains and driving them into the ground. It was THE moment... even before the interception.. it was the moment that we needed to lean on zeke and davis.. and even use dak to run the ball. We need to run the ball, show that we could still run the ball without pollard.. take time off the clock and score before the half. It would have meant we go into half time ahead.. with them worried about zeke and dak as a rushing threat.. and putting the pressure on purdy.

Instead we gave them the opportunity.. and they took it. Big interception.. then a couple of plays and then they get the FG.. and suddenly we are trudging into the locker room.. our heads down cause our QB has given up two picks, our best play maker has been carted off and we are behind. The risk/reward ratio was just all wrong to go for the pass play.

THAT is why Dak and Moore need to go. It was dumb.

Dak is a good player but these freakish quarterbacks at the top of league is changing the league. It appears the Cowboys payed Dak to be Mahomes and Burrow. He is not. It’s ok. Now your front office has to step up. Have to cut Zeke immediately.

Good post.

It's clear they think Dak can do what he can't and make bad players good. He can't take the team on his shoulders, especially with the likes of Noah Brown and this form of Michael Gallup.

But these geniuses scanned the weak NFC and deliberately worsened the team in the offseason. We started the year with DENNIS HOUSTON as a starting WR!!!!!

The depressing thing is, I don't think a better roster will get us the super bowl. I don't have any faith in Dak anymore

Do they need to go, or does there need to be an attitude adjustment? And does the head coach have the authority in that situation to lay out the strategy. If he doesn't, then he is worthless as well. The SMART football play was obvious...because it was not done...we should all be worried!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if they did he can't even do that. 2016 was an abberation not the rule. That was probably the most dominant O line in the past 20 years in the NFL too which certainly helped and Zeke was in his prime.

Wow...I forgot about Dennis Houston. What a laugh out loud comedy show. So we were prepared to have CeeDee Lamb/Dennis Houston try to outduel DeVonta Smith/AJ Washington? Not to mention have our guys try to beat the CBs in Philly?

The attitude of the chief architect of this organization is stuck in the success he witnessed in the 90s. He thought HE was the biggest reason for the success...and STILL does. Remember...he said 1 of 500 coaches could coach the Dallas Cowboys....NOTHING....NOTHING...has been the same since he uttered those words....because the person who uttered them is still in the SAME seat!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dark is a good QB but he plays tight when he is under duress and he doesn’t see the field well and processes information slowly. I thought he left a few completions on the field if he would have thrown the ball earlier in the receiver’s route. When he holds the ball longer he gives the defender a chance to come off the receiver and jump the route.

With that being said, I think his WRs run lazy routes at times. Looking at the Gallup INT, it appears he didn’t fight for position or the ball.

Additionally, he is playing under the weight of that monstrous contract and presses too much, taking on more than he is capable…unlike elite QBs he needs his supporting cast to play well to be successful.

this is true. But the Jonesboys play mind games. You make the big bucks...then you make whatever scraps we give you work. And they convince the fans that the cap is restricting them from being more aggressive. It is obvious who Dak is and who he is not at this point. Either get him the help he needs...or move on from him. There is no need to run this back as is.

Both of the interceptions Dak looked right at the receiver and defenders read his eyes. He does that a lot and the pics happen because of that. That won't change. He is the stare down King.

He's at his best when we run to set up the pass.
Same thing back in 2014 with Romo, once we committed to the run, the passing game was more efficient.
Zeke is toast, and Pollard is explosive but I don't think he's worth market price on the 2nd contract.
They need to get another RB in the draft, hopefully day 2 unless Robinson/Gibbs falls to them* and establish another strong ground game.

*Depending on bpa.

Well said.
I don't understand why they lean so much on Dak, have they lied to themselves to justify the contract?
He is not clutch, they put the game on his arm and he ends up chocking.
He had Lamb for a TD on the long pass play and underthrew him, same with Gallup, a couple of times TY was open and he ignored him.
He forced the throw to Lamb on the INT, which as we all know should have never happened if we ran for 2 yards. The first INT was 50/50 with Gallup I believe.
He is not a championship Qb and he never will be, you need accuracy, poise, presence, leadership from your QB against the top defenses in the POffs, not empty promises after the fact.

He will never reach that level.
In fairness....the coaching in Seattle was better....the roster was better....and maybe....maybe....Wilson is slightly better than Dak. But that is why i think that is the ceiling. You saw Wilson near the end in Seattle and now in Denver. He looks nothing like the guy who went to back to back super bowls. Why? Because he is being asked to do more. We are asking Dak to do too much. It looks great at times. But this is 2 straight years against the 49ers. He ain't getting past them. It should be obvious that he needs more help to get past them. But instead, this offseason we reduced the talent level around him. What sense did that make?

I agree, you can pay them but over much longer periods of time and with bonus earned of achievements like winning SB or number of Saks. Plan their later years as backups. Need to put concept of team back into NFL. Parsons is only one you mentioned that is truly elite among elite and could join the group of GOATs. Ceedee is Elite but not a goat…yet.
