They pulled me back in

I've been a Cowboys fan since they beat the Dolphins in SB VI. The description in the OP is what I experience every season unless they win the SB.

I'm with you until you start talking about asst coaches.all of those guys know their stuff.never in history is an asst coach the difference in any win or loss.
Maybe not, but the offensive coordinator in Philly just got a head coaching job, just like both of the coordinators in Detroit. So teams certainly feel like they make a difference.

70s Cowboys Asst Coaches: Dave Shula, Jimmy Robinson, Ernie Stautner, Ray Renfro, Dan Reeves, Jack Reilly, etc.

90s Cowboys Asst Coaches: Dave Campo, Mike Zimmer, Ron Meeks, Joe Avezzano, Butch Davis, David Shula, Dick Nolan, etc.

All of them made a big difference of those 70s and 90s SB Championship Cowboys teams.
You could have replaced them with any other asst coaches from team x, and they would have still won.

That's the way it always works. Then said coach goes to Cleveland, sucks, and gets fired.

By the end of last year’s disappointing season, I was very much checked out and indifferent.

And when the Schotty hire was initially announced, even more so.

But I must admit that as the off-season has gone by, my interest has been rekindled.

I loved the assistant coaching hires.

I loved what they did with trades and lower level free agency.

I loved the draft.

I love the Pickens trade.

I think they’ve had a fantastic offseason and I’m eagerly looking forward to training camp and the upcoming season.
It happens every year. The Cowboys flame out and everyone is fed up. A couple of off seasons moves and ....it's back on!!!

Not for me.
This is not the same team we grew to love. I recognize that.
This is not the Dallas Cowboys that once ruled the NFL. That organization is long gone.
I watch this group the way I look at a car crash as I pass by - sometimes with sadness, sometimes bewildered, and sometimes shaking my head and wondering how that kind of conduct is allowed.

I criticize and whine and moan after every season and declare that I'm stepping back, taking less interest in the team.

I admit it. I'm excited just like I am every season.

No matter what the team looks like, no matter what the media predicts, I start out every single season with the belief/hope/twisted perception that the Cowboys have a chance.

Granted, that changes at some point, sometimes even after the first game but I can't start out a season completely hopeless, I've seen this team rise from the ashes before.

I don't agree with this take. There are some valuable assistant coaches, especially on the side of the ball that isn't the head coach's area of expertise.

Philly's defense got a lot of praise for their Super Bowl success last year after hiring Vic Fangio. Not all of those successful assistants are cut out to be head coaches, though. Wade Phillips was an excellent defensive coordinator and helped Denver win a Super Bowl primarily because of its defense. We know he's a terrible head coach, though.

I can see by another of your responses that you seem bent on saying the assistants don't matter, but I think we've seen plenty of cases where the right assistants can make a big difference. You can't just plug in any assistant and have success because of the head coach.

Now, I'm not saying that your running back coach is going to be the reason why you win, but the offensive and defensive staff you hire can make a difference.

thank you Lee. I can tell you have loved this team for a long time

There have been superior rosters in the recent past to which nothing was accomplished.
And no, another one and done ain't some measure of success because they went 7-10 last year.

It's just returning back to the one and done ceiling of this football team.
The more that things change the more they stay the same.

This trash organization has some of you by the balls it's just sad really. ''He's changing, he's going to treat me right from now on''.
