I heard today via Twitter that the NFL went through with banning all those crazy type factmasks. I'm guessing it applies to Dwares bane looking face mask too. What is the NFL trying to get at by doing this? Senseless...

Maybe a finger can get caught/broken in them or something. Also, link?

I thought I read where Tuck and Canty were exempted. I think if you show reason for the extra protection you can where them.

When I glanced over the title thread on the main page, I seriously thought Justin Timberlake was banned from the NFL.

Good, they look dumb to me. I didn't like that Ware was wearing it last night.

Next thing you know they will ban gloves because its not their natural way of catching footballs.

My guess is they want to be able to see the players face for concussion prevention reasons. I know in the past players who wore visors would take a hit, most likely be concussed, and sit on the bench without removing their helmet so they don't get pulled from the game.

Weird because the more bars the more protection. I mean maybe not the Bane design, but what Canty wears and what Ware wore (even though I didn't like it) just have more bars, to offer more protection.

It makes the helmets heavier than they need to be. A normal facemask is fine. They are and have always been purely a fashion statement.

Facemasks nowadays are made of titanium. Extremely light weight. The weight of it is not an issue IMO.

I think it stems from the stand point that the NFL wants to keep all players on an even playing field (as if a facemask change does that) since the NFL also makes all players were gear. Nowdays even receivers wears thigh pads when they never had to. But, really, who know why?
