is parcells at VR

yesterday he wasnt, so i think if parcells isnt there this is to satisfy that rooney rule.

and maybe to talk to singletary about the Dc job too. as the niners are talking to manusky about their own Dc job.

so if norv is the guy, and brings singletary, does anybody think dallas makes a change in base defense?

yes singeltary has coached in the 3-4. but he's basically coaching LB'ers. coaching them on the art of being a linebacker. not really their scheme.

thoughts?

I feel 80% sure that Dallas is going to run the 3-4, I don't think Jerry intends to have this defense go back to the 4-3 since the last 2 years we have brought in players who fit the 3-4 scheme.

well Jerry says we're going to continue running the 3-4, I dont' see why he would switch back to the 4-3 on the account of a coach who doesn't have much experience coaching any D

the personnel assembled for the 3-4 D, switching back to the 4-3, under an inexperienced defensive coach is a recipe for disaster, Jerry isn't that dumb

What's so great about the 3-4 anyway?

What is so great about the 4-3? Both defensive schemes have seen success in the NFL both defenses have helped teams win SB titles. It comes down to players executing it and that goes for both the 3-4 and the 4-3

I guess it is just the natural order of things.

Unless you are counting backwards and in that case 4-3 would be the natural order of things.

i guess people still think because dallas runs the 3-4 it should work like the other 3-4 defenses. but i guess they dont see the talent at other places as opposed to dallas. they have ware, but other then that not much else in that front 7.

and the fact that none of these guys played the 3-4 before coming to dallas. and after 2 yrs most are still playing like they still havent ever played the 3-4

i know you do not mean the 3-4 is not about the lb position?

so did the DE's and the cb's and the safties. maybe we need to stop blaming the coaches and blame the players, and their stupid play.

Does Singletary really have a good rep as a coach? I've heard different things about him as a coach while he was in Baltimore and now some have asked why hasn't Nolan already named him as his DC in San Fran?

I know Singletary was a great player and everyone knows about his ferocity, intensity, field generalship. etc. all as a player. But have those things translated over to him as a coach?

i have to think he's a good defensive mind. i saw the niners play on a weekly basis and singletary has done wonders with those lb'ers. they're all no names and they were the heart of that defense this yr. u can only do so much without talent and ill have to say those lb'ers went out and played week in and week out. besides. i dont think nolan is going to let anybody coach that defense the way they want. thats his thing, and he's said it on more then a few occasions on the news here

I think you should keep in mind that Mike S coached for the Ravens D before coming to the 49er's. He has about 4 or 5 years with the 3-4. I think he would do just fine with running it. I am not endorsing him, but if he is hired as the DC.. I think he has enough experience under 2 different coaches that would enable him to be successful.

3 different coaches. 1 as a player in Mike Ditka or you could say Buddy Ryan. 2 as an assistant. I think most looked at Singletary as an on the field coach when he played for the Bears.

Great post 4ever! He would excel here as DC, but unfortunately, Jerruh wants Todd Bowels.

That is true, but I was specifically refering to his experience with the 3-4. I think that experience mixed with his experience with the 46 and Ditka and Ryan would also benefit him and our D.
