Things people are forgetting about Pettiti

The point that I take most comfort in is the fact that the Cowboys aren't stuck with anyone if they struggle - they have options.

If Petitti is as improved as reports indicate, great. He seems like a hard worker and I'm pulling for him to do well. If he does, the team should have their Right Tackle for the next several years.

If he struggles, the team has - not one, but two - options in Fabini and Marc Columbo. Therefore, worst case scenario, the position will be stronger than last year, either with an improved Rob Petitti, or another candidate.

I agree. Thankfully Tucker is no longer in the mix.

Before it is all said and done, some in here will have a Rob sig pic at the bottom of each post because his play will have improved significantly and will be worthy of a sig. Write it down!

One aspect of Pettiti's game that alot of people overlook (though it was glanced over in this thread) is his run blocking ability. These pass plays are set up on the principle of running the ball. Pettiti was very good in that aspect until the wheels of the O-line started to come off (sparked by the Hotel injury).

I read another comment in this thread that I don't exactly agree with either. I don't remember who posted it (and I'm not going to go back and look for it, because I'm not into calling someone out, I would prefer to argue a point rather than a poster). But, it was mentioned that Pettiti will never be a Pro-Bowler. I seem to remember another player that was never deemed a Pro-Bowl player and the collective Dallas fan base let out a big ***, when we learned that Parcells had made him an off-season signing priority (myself included). That player was Flozell Adams. Under the Campo regime this guy was an afterthought ("oh well, another wasted draft pick"). Parcells tapped into what made this guy tick and turned him into the cornerstone of our entire offensive line. How many of you would have thought that even a short three years ago Flo would be a more vital cog than Larry Allen? And, yes Larry was winding down, but Flo looked like he was a mediocre to career back-up LT guy by the time he hit FA. Parcells lit into what makes this kid go and we ended up with our first legit Pro-Bowl O-lineman since the mid 90's (I say legit because, as much as I love LA, Allen was getting there on reputation alone).

Now, is Pettiti the next Pro-Bowl protege of Parcells? Tough to say one way or the other. But, after a season in which the entire O-line should have sent their paychecks back upstairs (rather than cashing them), I'm going to cut the 6th round, 16 game, rookie a little more slack than most. To say he'll never be a Pro-Bowler after being thrown to the wolves in his first season is a bit hasty IMHO. I'll reserve judgement on what he may or may not be worth when his rookie contract runs out (and yes, I beleive he'll be here that long).

I hope your right. He seems like a good guy and I would love to have the tackle spot in good hands for years to come.
