Bill Parcells and the Cowboys are in trouble, and it can be directly attributed to TO. No kidding, you say? You knew it months ago, right? The moment the news came out, of course! Well, Cowboy fans didn't believe it. We focused on the fact that TO was a great player, and as long as he stayed out of trouble the Cowboys would be a better team with him in the lineup. I am one of those fans who believed he could be good for the Boys.
And you know what? For the most part (with one notable exception), TO's regular-season attitude has been exemplary. He has not once thrown a QB under the bus, never bad-mouthed the team or any other players. He has even taken blame when he deserves it. And he's said little to incite the masses, though the press has tried it hardest to make any story they can.
But here's the unexpected:
TO's been an average receiver. He's dropped passes that turned out to be game-changers. He's made as many bad plays as good ones.
And Bill Parcells is an emotional vagabond because of TO. He looks old and tired. When TO does stupid things, Parcells looks sad, throws up his hands and shakes his head like a loyal uncle. This is NOT the Bill Parcells that the Cowboys hired. The Cowboys hired a task-master. A man who teaches his players that the team is bigger than the sum of its parts. That each player is no bigger than any other. But sadly, as long as TO is around, Bill's teachings will fall on deaf ears. Evidence: this is the most undisciplined team I've seen out of Dallas in a decade (since Switzer).
