Quality backup then can also start and do very well. Jason Spitz, GreenBay Packers. Packers are said to have him on the block due to their good depth at interior line. Something MAY be fishy though, Past injury more serious then they are letting on?? I say that because Spitz has been a pretty decent player for them, young too, can play both center and guard. 45 career starts.

I don't know that I would trade for any O-Lineman right now, considering our backups have played fine. Bright, Costa, Brewster, all the guys people are terrified of having to play are looking like they're perfectly capable of playing at the level where you expect your backup linemen to play.

People around here don't realize O-Linemen get hurt on almost every team every year. At some point a backup is going to have to play.

One of the reasons I KIND OF like Spitz is because I believe our O line needs to get more athletic. Im fine with Gurode right now but Bigg and Colombo arent all that great on the move. We need lineman who can match the athleticism of the modern D lineman and linebackers.

How many people would have suggested grabbing a Green Bay castoff offensive lineman at the middle of last season?

Anybody remember Rivera from Green Bay?

yeah, that's totally relevant. Gee, I guess we shouldn't draft anyone out of USC either.

WOW...Brutal. Actually if anybody actually TOOK THE TIME and did a little reading they would know that Spitz is actually pretty good. But instead its just easier to act like an ***. For the record, Spitz didnt play much of last season when Green Bay was giving up all those sacks.

Packers' Spitz could be auditioning for other teams

Green Bay — Offensive lineman Jason Spitz may be playing this exhibition season to impress someone else as much as the Green Bay Packers.

The odd man out in the fight for the final starting spot on the offensive line, Spitz has stopped playing three positions and is being used solely at center.

It's his natural position, and after he was given almost no opportunity to compete at guard, it very well could be that the Packers are showcasing him for other teams.

Spitz, who had back surgery last year and suffered a calf injury that sidelined him from Aug. 9-16, looked like he was at full strength in the Packers' 27-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.

He played three series with the No. 2 unit, logging 22 plays (including penalty snaps) and acquitting himself well in the middle. He did not allow a pressure in the passing game, executed double teams properly and handled a number of line calls with what appeared to be full command of the offense.

His only mistake came at the end of the first half when he prematurely snapped the ball, resulting in a penalty and 10-second runoff that washed out the Packers' chances for a last-second field goal.

Spitz said he had no control over the coaches' decision not to let him compete directly with Daryn Colledge and rookie Bryan Bulaga for the left guard spot.

Why thankyou Arch. I guess there are a few who actually take a little time to educate themselves before piling on. Good man!:D

It's a good idea as long as his back is okay. I guess I'd be a little worried about that. But do we really need him? I guess it would depend how much we like Costa.

Bright, Costa, Brewster.

You pull the plug on one of those guys for a guy coming off a back injury?

Me neither.

Everyone seems to be happy as a lark about our BACKUP OL after the last game. Well, that's nice. It beats everyone talking about how horrible they were prior to the game.

The questions about our backup OL are not nearly as important as the talent of our starting OL. If we were to make a trade it would need to be for a sure fire starter.

I wouldn't rule it out, but you know I'm a Costa guy. :)

To be clear....in NO WAY am I saying that I am advocating a trade like this. Just saying he may be available if we do in fact end up needing to pick someone up. Im fine with Holland, even alright with Costa, Brewster??? Pretty luke warm, plus he is a Tackle. Think it would be well worth considering if something happened to Holland or Costa.
