Think the new NFL rules will impact the game?

...we have couple crucial one's. Hip drop tackle and new kick off rule adjustment.

Personally, I feel the hip drop will fall into the same category as "How do you tackle the QB, the correct way? "

Lots of bad calls coming this year in that sector. Because the game happens so fast. Defenders aren't going to stop and calculate how the tackle will go down.

As for kickoff rule, its going to be interesting.

What say you guys?

Nope, rules are made so they have no impact on the game

Broaden that to 'how do I tackle now that the hip drop has been banned".

To that I would say go watch games from the times before the hip drop became a thing, games prior to 2002. The 85 Bears had one of the best defenses in the history of the league and didn't use the hip drop technique. Dallas won 3 super bowls in the 1990's without using the hip drop. Proper tackling CAN be done without intentionally trying to break ankles.

Defenses will just have to figure out new ways to injure players on offense.

I don’t think the hip drop is a new thing, we just see it more often in the modern game because offenses are so spread out and design plays to get guys the ball in space. This is when the majority of these tackles happen, typically a LB or DB making a play on a ball carrier in the open field from an angle.

Back when the game was played more north/south and CBs could play tough man coverage there wasn’t as much a need for these tackles

Just put a dress on the QB and declare him off limits.

As for the new kickoff rules, it should be interesting. I think Turpin will have a few TD run backs.

As long as they call the hip drop tackle the way they should, it shouldn't be a problem. Just don't do it and land on the players legs. If they don't land on a player's legs, it shouldn't be called. I've played a lot of football in my life, I'm 6 foot, 180 pounds, and I never tackled someone and landed on their legs.

I think the new kickoff rule will at times feel like onside kicks where you break 1-2 tackles and you’re gone. Maybe not a lot more TDs, but a lot more drives starting around the 50

It's becoming a combination of arena and flag football and the refs take every opportunity to impact the game.

This is not the same NFL I grew up watching in the early 90s.

I like the KO rule, they were getting stale and becoming a routine TB every time…now it’s going to be much more likely to see a return
New KO rule will result in an increased field position resulting in more FG's.

Hip drops have been around much longer the 1980s and yes, the 85 Bears used them too. It is not some super secret jujutsu technique only recently developed. It is the natural, logical way for a smaller man to bring down a larger man.

What you are going to see is a few seasons of DBs simply giving up on tackling TEs and large RBs who have broken free. The rule will then get changed back due to this as the injury excuse is b.s. you have less than .1% chance to be hurt by a hip drop, the same or less than just about every other technique.
