Think we needs some more junk in the trunk

It appears to my uneducated eye that the weakness of our Oline in both the center and left guard positions are most apparent on passing plays. That weakness is the inability of both Connor Williams and Biadasz to be able to anchor down and hold off powerful DT's. I'm guessing there is no real solution as God made them without enough "Junk in the Trunk". They are both about 20 pounds too light and that heavy part needs to be right in the trunk compartment. Now, I think they are both decent players, but it appears both of them just don't have the right body type to hold up against penetrating maulers on passing downs. PS. No idea how to solve this, but if I'm a D-Coordinator on opposing teams that's a weakness you just have to attack. No doubt it has killed us a few times this year already. Thoughts.

I don’t disagree, but it can be overcome with TECHNIQUE. Mark Stepnowski was definitely undersized, but he was a Pro Bowler because he had great technique and used leverage to his advantage.

Step also had monster sized guards and tackles to help him. Nate, Gogan, LA, etc.

Connors next to Biadsz is doubling down on a weakness.

Maybe, but he’s got a pretty good one on the other side.

Weight wise, per NFL info, Tyler is the same weight/height as Zach Martin.

IMO it's less about mass than it is technique. Biadasz at 335 would still get bullrushed if he can't establish leverage.

I would think Tyler can still improve. It's only his second year and he's only started a handful of games. Connor on the other hand is in what, his 4th year? It's just not going to happen. He's not big enough. He's more of an athletic lineman that may be able to excel in a different blocking scheme, but it's not going to happen here. He's a FA after this year and McGovern isn't so if they are anywhere near equal in ability I am putting in McGovern over Williams.

Biadasz is either gonna blow a disc or tear a knee with the way he’s getting bowed up like a shrimp cocktail.

I think Williams is probably never going to get better. He has shown the same weakness against big DTs bull rushing him since he was a rookie. Biadasz is still young. Maybe he can get stronger. But I think his problem is more technique. As the OP said, they are not anchoring, but it has nothing to do with their size. If you watch what happens when they get bull rushed it is almost always the DTs gets under their pads and into their bodies. When that happens they are finished.

Williams is a free agent after this year and Dallas will probably not bother re-signing him. But it would not shock me if Biadasz is not the starting Center in 2022. I would not shock me if the Cowboys draft a C in 2022. Farniok and McGovern will compete for the LG position.

I’d give them another year to bulk up, but I’m still drafting a LT and C/OG next year so it really doesn’t matter to me.

Sure feels like McGovern is one of our five best OL (maybe even four best) so I wish they could get him on the field.

Said it in another thread, mostly playfully as I can't see it actually happening, but what if you put Collins at LG and McG at C? At the very least you wouldn't be getting pushed back into Dak's lap anymore.

Williams already has 4 penalties this year. I will say one of them yesterday was a ticky tac call but the guy is going to start earning a reputation if he continues down this track.

Need to see this!

You are missing the point.

Putting 2 guys next to one another who struggle with SAME weakness, whether it is technique or strength, is a huge liability.
No, I didn’t miss the point. I simply think they can overcome it.

Interesting thing is they are both decent run blockers. Nether can anchor worth a crap. Based on appearances both look small compared to our other lineman.

Step had strong legs.
