Thinking About The 8 Teams Ahead of Us

I hope Denver doesn't like the idea of Peterson opposite Champ Bailey.
They gave up the most points in the NFL. They had the fewest sacks. They are going to go DL. Bet money on that.

I just want the draft to get here. Speculating over a long period of time about the same exact thing begins to suck after a while.

I didn't say there were four QBs. I said there are four teams who need a QB. They are Carolina, Buffalo, Cincy, and Arizona. There are two though. That takes 2 options out of the way. The other three teams all have major needs on the DL too.

I cannot see Peterson going before #6.

I could see him falling if a couple of scenarios occur:

Buffalo does not draft Von Miller. If they do, Arizona will grab Peterson.
Arizona values Von Miller over PP. If not, they pull the trigger.

If those two scenarios occur, Dallas would still have to deal with the Browns to move up past the 49ers. If Newton and Gabbert are gone, then San Fran will take Peterson.

All of this is just my opinion, of course.

Just curious, what exactly do you mean by this?
He's a marketing dream. Handsome kid, sculpted body, and a Heisman Trophy attached at the glory position of the greatest game.

Cam Newton will sell more tickets than any 3 players in this Draft because of the position he plays, the Heisman, and his looks.

Carolina would be stupid to pass on him.

I'd bet you money that Arizona has Gabbart, Newton, Quinn and Miller above Peterson on their board. No way all 4 of those are gone.

Completely agree which is why I think the best thing for Dallas is for BOTH QB's to fall. I know a lot of fans worry about what JJ would do if Cam was still on the board, but I'm hoping he's still there. Not so Dallas takes him, but for the value he brings to the pick.

Take & trade or simply grab numerous picks for moving down - ala the dream trade w/NE.

Some may think the #9 pick is the best option (not a QB, though), but if there's a trade possibility that gives Dallas a grouping of picks in rds 1 & 2 - maybe even 3 - I'd vote for that move.

I think they probably have Miller above Peterson, but even if they have them rated higher I don't see Arizona taking a QB. They might as well trade Fitzgerald while they are at it. The pressure is on Whisenhut to win now and the two biggest difference makers that they will have to choose from are Miller and Peterson. They will look at getting in a Veteran (Kolb, Bulger) and drafting one of those two.

Of course, the exact oppostie could happen.

If Cam is on the board @ #9 - some teams may simply be seeing the negatives come into focus and not value him highly at all. Other teams may simply play the waiting game for him and since he's falling shows other teams - and thier own - negatives must be true, there's no value in trading up.

I can see either scenario playing out - but given the nature of GM's I think it's more likely Cam would generate a ton of interest @ #9.

And their coach historically LOVE D-linemen.

Again, anything can happen as recent drafts have proven, but I don't see PP in Denver.

Sadly, I won't be a bit surprised if Denver or Buffalo take Patrick Peterson at 2 or 3. I think Cam Newton needs a really strong workout or pro day or something to rejuvinate his draft status and get him into the top 8. That would go a long way in bettering our chances that PP is still lingering on the boards. The other thing is that there are a ton of other teams that very well could trade up before us and snatch PP. I think Cleveland and San Fran would be suspects tempted to take PP also. Overall, the prospects are dim but its definitely possible.
If someone will go pick a fight with him at a club and call the cops to get him in some trouble then that might double the odds he's still there at 9...haha

To every one of you who keep placing Peterson in the top 4 picks...will you please give me a list of CBs in the History of the NFL who have gone that high?

I already know who they are, but I want you to do some homework. You are basically saying that this guy will break NFL precedent, but that you would not go up to get him.

How does that work? If he is that good, sell the farm to get him.

Alright Hos, I can't predict how but as of this moment I'm about sold as I will get that Jerry will find a way to move up and get Peterson and in the process break the NFL precedent.

I dont think he goes to Carolina, Denver or Buffalo and that will be far enough for Jerry.

I don't think he goes to Cincy or Arizona either. I think he makes it to #6.

Here is the list of CBs who have gone top 5 in NFL History.

2003...Terence Newman...5th
2002...Quentin Jammer...5th
1998...Charles Woodson...4th
1997...Shawn Springs...3rd
1992...Terrell Buckley...5th
1991...Bruce Pickens...3rd
1991...Todd Lyght...5th
1989...Deion Sanders...5th
1976...Mike Haynes...5th

That's it for NFL History guys. 9 guys. The highest a CB has ever gone is 3rd twice.

I believe PP makes it to 6th and we grab him.

If Jerry doesn't want to risk it and moves for him at 4, what would that cost?

because that won't happen.

The Boongals still don't know that teams are allowed to trade in the draft. They're barely getting over the fact that territorial drafts were done away with roughly 60 years ago.

They're just slow learners..

I just can't see Peterson getting past the 49ers at 7. Their secondary is in shambles, like ours and need help back there big time.

If Peterson DOES drop to there, I can see Jerry trading up for Peterson if he is actually infatuated with him.

I agree that Newton will go #1 though.

The Cardinals will be drafting Von Miller if he falls to them. I would bet big money on that. The Cardinals will either be trading for Kevin Kolb/McNabb or picking up a Marc Bulger like QB. They won't be drafting one at all. If the Cardinals have another crappy year, Whisenhunt will on on the hot seat and he isn't going to risk his job over a rookie QB.

IF we draft Patrick Peterson at 9 or trade up a few picks i pray that im in a padded room because i will freakin go WILD WITH HAPPY RAGE! If we get him im going to break something out of pure unadulturated JOY!

I only named 3 because if we want him I think Cincy or Arizona will be the teams we will have to move up with. I'm getting a vibe the Browns will be more then happy to take him if he is sitting there at 6.

Well, take a look at their situation. They just tendered Eric Wright ( 2nd round tender ), and they have Joe Haden on the other side, so where would they play PP, safety ? Also, speaking of Haden, by selecting PP it would be back to back years of top 10 picks on the CB position. Hoss points out that 9 CBs have gone top 5 in the history of the league, proving how seldom that happens. I don't think any team has ever spent back to back top 10 picks on CBs, or at least not that I can remember. Then there's the Dick Juron factor ( 4-3 defensive coordinator ) and the reality that they don't have a defensive lineman who could win a back up job in most other teams.

This is their current D-line:

Defensive Ends
Kenyon Coleman
Jayme Mitchell
Brian Sanford
Brian Schaefering
Robaire Smith

Defensive tackles
Titus Adams
Travis Ivey
Scott Paxson
Ko Quaye
Ahtyba Rubin
Derreck Robinson

There's talk that Fairley might be dropping in the draft because he came in an inch shorter and 10 lbs lighter than he was thought of being ( which is ridiculous imo ). Well, he doesn't get past Cleveland if that's the case and that's almost a guarantee. In reality, if they choose to pass on AJ Green ( if he's there ) and Julio Jones, their pick will certainly be Marcell Dareus, with Robert Quinn ( if he's available ) a possibility also. I highly, highly doubt they'll go for PP in this draft.

Marketing? Yeah until more comes out about his past and his father. Not to mention his cheating and stealing. And then lets talk about his need to be an entertainer and icon.

And until he shows he is not ready to play in the NFL.

Picking Newton would be dumb and Rivera is not dumb.
