You’re not going to get 6 years without a new contract. Look no further than Zeke. They can hold out after 3 years of accrued service. The team doesn’t have to renegotiate, but the player can hold out and report after 11 games and still get a year of accrued service. RBs, and more importantly, their agents, understand the system and the position longevities.You get the 5th year option and then a franchise year if you choose. That gives you 6 years of control at an overall very reasonable cost for a top talent and then allows you to let him go right as the drop off in production is expected.
