Things aren’t looking too hopeful at the Star these days. Season ending Injuries, sloppy play, turnovers, and unbelievably bad defense. So, yeah, we’re 1-3.

But sometimes when bad things happen, some good things can still happen, starting of course with a win against the hapless midgets Sunday. In fact, sometimes when your back is against the wall, some fun can unfold. Here are some things that could make the rest of the year still interesting:
  • We can find out right away if we have something worth developing with rookies like Tyler Biadz, Terrance Steele, Trevon Diggs, and Bradlee Anae. I’m hoping we we get some good looks at all these guys.
  • As a side note, I would still be interested in cutting Tyrone Crawford. We certainly aren’t getting anything worth what he’s getting paid, and I would like to see more of the kids.
  • Cedee Lamb’s immediate impact and Michael Gallup’s ongoing development coupled with the expensive Amari Cooper makes the WR position almost too loaded. Cooper’s contract makes him very hard to trade...I think. I know to most this is sacrilege but I was against re-signing Cooper. Now that we have Lamb, we have an embarrassment of riches at this position. Could that be used to acquire something else we need?
  • I want to see if Big Mac is a great coach or not. He has a chance to show he can make applesauce out of some rotten apples. Or if he’s just a an ordinary coach who needs an Aaron Rodgers to be effective. Great coaches find a way to make the best of a bad situation. Big Mac has a bad situation. What can he do with it?
  • When you’re this far down, take some chances! I hope they throw out all the stops.
  • Even if we lose, it’s always fun to see Jerry’s face in a loss. It’s the only good thing about losing.
There are still 12 games left on this schedule. That’s an eternity in NFL terms. This team may go 1-15 for all I know, but being in a position like we’re in now shouldn’t mean “tanking”. This season has been weird already. Why not at least make some aggressive moves on and off the field. Don’t act like Jason Garrett and punt, lol.

Absolutely, we get some up close and early looks at some of the future potential core players.
Lamb already showing whats up
TB has every opportunity to anchor this OL
Steele
Diggs
Anae
They got a story to prove as well.

...best thing about this we're in 2nd place..;). Anything could happen. In hindsight, maybe these losses were good. The APB went out on certain players and the media chewed them up. Lets see how they respond.

>>>>PS... I wont even mention who they are, you already know.

The Midgets have faced four defenses far more formidable than the one they will face this Sunday. Don't be surprised if we find ourselves in another shootout.

McCarthy has already shown he can be aggressive, and sometimes stupid. This team isn't playing for a Super Bowl (sorry to crush some of y'all's fantasies), so see how many points we can score and get a good look at your young players. It is what it is, like you said, it can still be fun.

im very excited about those 2 kids at OT.
they look worth workin' on.
and Biadasz was very impressive.
i'd still look to add a OT in the draft just because you can never have enough.
but im excited for Biadasz Knight & Steele.

Good post as usual Bob.
I wasn't expecting this team to get to the Super Bowl. If you don't expect too much, you won't get too emotionally involved. Maybe that's not the definition of a fan but it's how I feel. There's just been too many years of disappointment.
That said there can still be a lot of enjoyment yet this season. The division is still absolutely winnable although there's far too many holes on this team to get far. There is a lot of new young players with potential to watch and we'll certainly get a chance to see just what kind of coaching staff this really is. We'll also see which of the veterans have heart & which are just collecting a paycheck.

I agree except Steele isn’t ready to play right now. Other than that I’ll agree.

If I was McCarthy, I would be throwing the kitchen sink on both sides of the ball. Gadget plays, crazy blitz packages. Right now, this team has no identity. Maybe they need to reinvent themselves as a young team that takes chances. Playing conservative with this team is stupid IMO.

I think it can get worse.
Let's say they go 2-6, or 3-5.
What's the incentive to play hard at that point?
I think we may be looking at a 6-10 season.
Nothing fun about that....
.
Yeah....I'm cynical about this team. I have been since Bill Parcells left.

Just beat the Giants. Just win this week please.

yeah i mean we can probably win the division maybe even win a playoff game against the Bears or something but that is probably it and so it's a little disappointing

I like you, respect you and your posts big time....BUT...

All you've said is a subset of the question of does Jerry and his kid know how to run a football team.

I'm pretty sure we know the answer to that already.

It's awful and I hate to speak that way. I hate it, but its unfortunately very real.

If all the answers to everything here come up all great, they will screw something else up.

I'm sorry, they just arent qualified and are in way over their heads and have been all along.

Don't fall for it guys, Bob is setting you up. You're going to see these young guys, get excited about them and carry that buzz of a second-year jump over to next season and Bob's going to be the first one to tell you to temper your expectations:laugh:

I agree with you that Jones boys are clueless about building a roster that wins in the playoffs. I’m just saying even when things are bad, this can still be fun. As I said in the OP, I want the Cowboys to win. But when they don’t, I thoroughly enjoy the shots of the owners box.

Tangle- pass me a shot of that Wild Turkey. That’s another way to have some fun this season.

Yah..…...the only fun left is laughing at Jerry and how bad his team is. As the losses pile up our draft position goes up. This team needs so much help its scary. Worst part is having clowns like Lawrence and Jaylon tied up in big contracts on D.
