This Cant End Well For Garrett

Fellas, I have been thinking about this play calling change and I just don't see how it is going to end well for Garrett. There are only two options that can happen here......

1. The offense sputters again, especially in the red zone, and we end up being an average team again and probably not making the playoffs. Garrett then gets a bus ticket out of big D.

2. The offense looks great, we improve in the red zone and we become one of the better scoring teams in the NFL. Garrett then looks like he was the problem all along, it was his offense or he himself calling the plays that was the main problem.

So either way, Garrett either gets fired or fans think he is a total idiot that was the reason the offense has sputtered for all of these years. Considering Garrett has the reputation of being an "offensive guru", somebody else taking over what used to be his job and doing it better cant look good at all if you are Garrett.

It would be like your employer hiring a new person and giving him some of your old duties. The new hire then proceeds to do your old job three times as fast and without any errors. How you think that makes you look to the boss?

Like I said, I don't see how this can end well for Garrett.

Are you saying that Garrett is a Stark and Winter is coming?

This offseason just reeks of desperation.

Scrap the defense, scrap the offense, scrap the playcaller. Despite all of the claims that Garrett has some grand vision, all of this tells me that he is making it up as he goes and doesnt have a clue what he prefers as a coach and he doesnt have a clue on how to play to his players strengths. Pretty pathetic that the Dallas Cowboys are this guys science experiment.

Your second point is silly. If the offense does great and we win, Garrett will stick around for a while. Some coaches are better as coordinators, and some coaches are better as head coaches. Quite frankly, I've always though that Garrett would be a great "leader of men" type if he focused exclusively on his head coaching duties. Also, I've never been a fan of the head coach calling the offensive plays.

In short, if our offense excels AND we win, the only thing people will be doing is celebrating. The play-calling "drama" will become forgotten news.

I never said Garrett would not be here if the team won. What I said was that the perception of Garrett would be forever changed if we did win.

While the fans would be celebrating, they would all be thinking "why didn't we let somebody else call the plays sooner?" Garrett would be virtually thought of as the villiage idiot that couldn't get the job done.

Scenario #2 is more about Garrett's reputation than job position.

No, he is saying that Garrett is the British at Roarke's Drift and 10,000 Zulus are coming.

There are many things going on here

a) Agree with OP that Garrett is in a tough spot here

b) Agree with other posters that winning cures all and if they win...

c) This offseason just concerns me. Seems like a "see what we can change and see what sticks." Desperation is a Stinky Cologne (copyright Super Troopers)

d) Because of "c" I can easily see a scenario where the team fails but Jerry doesn't do a thing due to excuses regarding a new defense, a new offense, etc, etc.

It just seems to be this circular cluster of a mess at times. You hope one of these experiments work but in the NFL it is tough to accomplish.

When he ends up coaching the Giants or the Dolphins, it probably won't end so bad.

Garrett is still involved with the offense and the game planning. Who is calling the plays? who cares if players execute and this team wins then no one is going to care. As far as comparing it to other jobs well it is not like any other job out there.

At the end of the day Garrett like any coach in the NFL is accountable for wins and loses he does not get off the hook. If things do not go well then it is Garrett who has to make the changes and adjustments to over come it again just like any other HC

Nope, only fans like you would think that way. And quite frankly, even if true, who cares what fans "think?"

Maybe Jerry is preparing to fire himself and make Callahan head coach and Garrett G.M. I'm on board for that.

Ah yes, the old 'fail your way up the ladder' theory.

Who cares, you ask?? Take a look at this board and any other if you wish...it will continue to matter. We pick ALL the meat off the bones here :laugh2: .

Glad to see that accountability is still considered important by some on the board (2nd paragraph). Well said.
