This defense needs addressed

The defense has always been not good. Dan Quinn was just able to hide it a little bit using smoke and mirrors (ex: a good pass rush that can pin their ears and get after the QB when they have a lead). But even that style eventually got exposed by some teams.

You know, I wanted to believe that it was the scheme. That players needed to adjust. They showed some life the last couple of weeks, but laid down today. Dowdle went for 200+. Bryce Young looked like a pro bowl QB. They couldn't get a stop against a mediocre offense with the game on the line.

We can preach talent deficit all we want, but we have a decent DL and a pair of All-Pro corners, safeties that have been around for awhile and have shown to be better than what we are seeing. LB is bad, but they aren't the reason that the D is getting walked every week. There have been no adjustments. No blitzing to create pressure. Murray isn't good at much, but he's a terror as a pass rusher. What happens when Overshown comes back? No creativity. It's the same tired scheme every week, with the occasional line stunt thrown in. It's losing us games.

Dak is playing some of the best ball of his career and it's being wasted because the defense is so bad. It shouldn't take an entire offseason two months of regular season play to learn how to play a professional scheme. At what are these coaches held accountable? It's pathetic. They need to do something to shake things up.

I hated us resigning Osa. I never seen him as a difference maker to be paid what he is paid.

I hope they make a trade for a good player for this defense but I doubt it happens.
My guess is they ride with what they got hoping the players coming off injuries will help.

But I think it is fair to say, they better get good players in next years draft to address this defense.

Problem is you need more DTs, DEs, LBs and DBs. The LBs and DBs are always injured or coming off injuries. Still have no clue How Revel will do.

Agreed Brain, but how? Jerry and Stephen have been doing this for decades. They never build a complete team.
If it’s no backup QB, we tank.
If it’s only 1 receiver, the offense stalls. Or it’s no RB. Or it’s no OL depth.
When the offense is fairly well built or we get lucky and avoid injuries, they ignore the defense. No DTs for a decade. At times, no CBs. One year no LB depth so we play a Safety who weighs 215 at MLB.

This year they tried to have at least 2 DT-3’s and 1 DT-1 who can actually play, and maybe we will be better inside when Winfrey returns to spell Grant. They actually brought in lots of depth at CB and a future rookie. But my gosh, they totally screwed the pooch at LB. Every one of these guys except Sanborn might as well be playing blindfolded. Murray, James, and Liufau have no vision or instincts at all! Even when the DL and DEs held their ground today, I never saw a LB fire into a gap to meet the damn RB. They just stood there and waited till he popped out of the hole and then tried to make contact 4-5 yards down the field. Sanborn was not very good in pass coverage, but I’m praying he returns next week. At least he sees it coming and is in the right place.

Fans have been calling to fire Eberflus since week 2, but it’s not him. How do you play defense without LBs who see the play and go hard to fill the hole?

I would never do it to the poor kid, but Marquise Bell was a better LB than any of these guys, and Overshown cannot fix this mess when he returns because he is a run around guy, not a MLB. My gosh….has Eric Kendricks signed with anyone?

We always blame the wrong guys, Romo, Dak, head coaches or assistants. We always have stars in spots that make us think we are good, but Jerry and Stephen always leave the team with a gaping weakness or weaknesses somewhere.

Despite the run game being completely dominated today, we are 1 injury to Javonte Williams from becoming a 1 dimensional offense every week because while most teams stock up on RBs, Dallas likes to gamble on 2 cheap vets and 2 late round rookies and hope something works.

Bottom line, this is an incomplete team, and they won’t make the playoffs this year because they aren’t good enough, and if a miracle happens, it will be the same old story. A good or even great offense cannot carry a team to playoff success on its own.

The scheme works in other places and has worked in Dallas before. But all schemes require the right players. Most of you guys hate the zone, but can you imagine how much worse our run D might be in man to man? The problem is right now we have only 1 viable 1-tech and 2 3-techs who can play at all. And we don’t have a single LB who sees the run and has any instincts to fill. They all stand back and wait on the RB to break through. It’s pathetic. We brought in a bunch of guys this year, but only the least athletic of the bunch can actually play, and he’s out with a concussion.

6 weeks in and they STILL struggle to figure out how to play the various zone coverages he's calling.

I am under no delusion that the talent is good in the secondary but when guys are WIDE OPEN and guys seem confused in the secondary, that's a coaching issue, not talent.

The secondary was not the problem today. The front seven couldn’t make a play vs the run to save their lives. They had 27 points on offense, driving the length of the field every time with only 165 passing yards at one point. I got to where I saw it as a favor when they dropped back to pass.

Its not like we were winning playoff games with him? When did we win the SB with him?
